A bit late, but this may help as a very simple and quick solution. I did it about 2 years ago and it's still working.
Just glue 2 x 1/4" rubber hole grommet O ring washers (or similar) to the rear of the center console box, between the back hinges. This will provide enough pressure to pop-up the door.
These rubber grommets work like a charm! I will find some other use for the rest of the grommets but for $12 it fixed my problem quick and easy. I used a drop super glue gel under the grommets. Thanks!
Just installed the black spring pins(via EBay from Greece) and the console door now pops open perfectly. Prior to putting in these spring pins the door just did not open when I hit the release. Then, inevitable while driving down the road I was fiddling to get the console open, usually with both hands!!! If you order the black pins do plan on waiting a month or so for these pins to show up from Greece. Also, the shipper had a signature requirement which was not really necessary, and that added a day or so. Thanks so much for this tutorial on solving a minor, but vexing problem on my GT.
