Just acquired a 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe

New guy on here. The last Mercedes I rode in was a 300SL Roadster with a hard top back in the '60's. I have been following the AMG GT cars since their introduction. They have always appealed to me because they remind me of my '67 E-Type; long nose, you sit back near the axle, fastback rear.
I don't have the car yet as it is on its way from NY to Socal, sitting in a trailer freezing its Cup 2 tires off.
At any rate, I'm looking forward to driving the car after reading so many glowing reports, many which have conflicting information. I am a bit of a gearhead³ and enjoy reading up on all the oily bits. I come from a VAG background and they offer beautifully done exploded views of the mechanical stuff that is used for training. Does something like this exist in the AMG world? It would make me happy if someone could point me in the correct direction.
By the way, I've been suffering from some health challenges and cannot walk. I can drive fine but I won't be doing any left foot braking. Just hoping that getting in and out of the thing won't be too exhausting. Thanks for reading this and happy motoring!

Black on black. The wheels are powder coated black. Bronze calipers squeezing carbon/ceramic rotors.

Hi,

Good choice. :-)

Get the Mercedes-Benz WIS / EPC. Here you will find the workshop and parts information.

Isn't being able to walk permanent?

Best regards

Stenzel

I agree with Stenzel. If you're going to be on the mechanical/technical side of this car WIS is useful.

I too have some experience with VAG mainly on the W12 (Bentley/Audi) using a VCDS which opens up full diagnosis, module coding etc.

Thanks for that Stenzel. Doesn't seem to download on my android phone. I guess I'm going to have to get a new Windows 10 laptop.
As far as my medical condition, I don't have paralysis. I have weakness in my left leg/side which was caused by undiagnosed cervical spine compression. I had neck surgery in 2000 and 2007 but I fear the damage was done. Still hopeful I gain back some usefulness. If I was in Germany I could probably get stem cell treatment and other procedures that aren't available in the US.
Cheers

I have the Ross-Tech cable for my 2011 VW GTI (which is for sale, only 8400 miles)

You'll find the steering on the GT-R is not as stiff as on the 300 SL.

I won't be able to compare since my dad was driving and I think I was 12 years old.

Humour? I like humour. Considering the 300SL didn't have power steering I have no doubt the GT R will steer with less effort. The SL was arguably the first petrol powered road car with direct injection.

Yes, I wasn't trying to correct you. I sometimes speak in British English because I have two British cars and been around them for decades. My phone also autocorrected to that spelling.

Congrats on your purchase. Just a reminder that Cup 2 (and most, if not all, of Michelin's track and summer performance) tires are not supposed to be flexed at temperatures below -7 deg C (19.4 deg F) or they are subject to having the rubber crack (so the tires would no longer be all they're cracked up to be?). For safety, you'll want to check the tires upon receiving the vehicle.

Thank you. Nothing I can do about the transporter or the weather. I will certainly be checking the tires over very carefully. The car is in New Mexico currently so I should be seeing it Friday.

These aren't my pictures but this is my car. I can't walk so I can't really take pictures and my garage is too small to really get the whole car in. Stock except the wheels have been powder coated, covering the machined lip. PO also had it Zipang coated and there is ppf on the leading edge of the rear fenders.

Thanks. I would have preferred another color but this is the one that came up on BaT and I "rebound" bid after I lost out on a Ferrari 599. It was an impulse buy but I had caught auction fever. Not like me to be so spontaneous.
I am very pleased with the car and there is a tremendous amount to learn.
