Patching front license plate holes

I put a deposit down on a car from California (see enclosed photo), where they screwed the front license plate right into the left front of the car. I'm in Pennsylvania where we do not have a front license plate. Any ideas, tips, or trick on how to patch up those screw holes without having to repaint the front bumper?

Looks like you really checked it out before you put that deposit down, lol THAT would have been the first thing I would have asked about. If its drilled find out who did it and *****-slap them.

If it is screwed in (probably) and it is only holes drilled into the bumper, come back here and I can show you a fix, short of removing the bumper, patching and repainting the entire bumper

I had to add a front license plate so I looked into options. The license plate on the side used a bumper cover to a hold-down receptacle. That is, there is a small circular cap, that pops out and exposes a female thread where you thread in a bolt with an eye to hold the car down during transportation. With a little luck, this is how a front plate was added to your car. A plug is likely available and can easily be painted to match the color of the bumper.

best of luck with the car! You will love it!

Same here with my GT. It was literally the first thing I said to the dealer. Something along the lines of "I need that front plate mount removed and the holes fixed". Needed to go to a body shop and wait a couple of weeks before they could install PPF. I've never had a front plate on any car I've owned and have yet to encounter any trouble. On some cars it doesn't look terrible. The GT isn't one of those cars.

So did you find out if the front bumper has holes or not? What's the verdict?

I don't know the dynamics of folks here but it didn't seem like a overly harsh comment. Definitely not defending anyone just trying to gauge the level of banter here. Maybe, I have had Brit Royal Marines, Scotland Yards Detectives, NCA officers, etc working for me too long and gentle ribbing seems a bit harmless.

Anyhow, hate that someone may have done that to your car even just double sided tape offends me- like using JB Weld on a transmission. I have a California car and there are several different types of plate holders available that let you put it on for driving and take it off for car shows etc without altering the car. I hope it works out for you!

Thought I'd revive this thread as OP didn't come back.

So, I was at a car show last night, there was a GTR parked there and something on the front bumper caught my attention. It does look like some (maybe dealers) are screwing the plate holder directly into the front bumper (what a shame). Another sad part, the screw clamp force distorted the plastic and caused a crater at each hole. I'm assuming there is a factory formed bracket being used as this isn't a simple form. If it's a homemade bracket it must be pretty klugey.

These holes are small and, unfortunately, the "Bumper Plugs" option from the online supplier are going to cause a much larger hole to be redrilled (9/32" {.281}) and the head of the plastic painted plug will be huge! Especially true for the far left hole as it is so close to the crease the head of the plug will end up over the edge. This wouldn't be an option if it was my car.

Take the bumper off, sand and repaint.......expensive, but the best way IMO. I had holes from the front lip I had.......ended up having it done at a body shop for 1000. I do sleep better at night now lol.

Dealers are stewpid, for the most part. There are other options to mounting/having a front plate.

Hi,

Think I found this GTR :-) :-) :-)

From 0:48 you can see the license plate holder.

Found this side bracket for the US and Canadian markets in the EPC.

Before facelift: - MY 807 part number: A190 885 04 81
Before facelift MY 807 with aero package (Code B26) part number: A190 885 07 00

here is also a facelift (Panamera).Don't have the number though.

Anyone who has a newer EPC can take a look. Choose GTS -> chapter 88 Attachments -> page 030 Front bumper. -> step 3

best regards

Stenzel

Hi Stenzel,

Looks like this plate is the culprit. As I look over the entire front end, there are not very many places to mount a plate that does not block a pathway to one of the radiators or intercoolers. In the US, our plate dimensions are closer to a square rectangle then European plates which are far mor length than width.

Everything that requires drilling holes in the front bumper for license plates and all the remedies to correct them is atrocity. They all look like sh%^.

Check with the selling dealer on a potential discount. If screwed in like the white example, this is an expensive re-spray, given that this is magno paint.
I expect this to be a $3k job at least if so.

I ended up asking the dealer to repaint it. Just received the car. Looks beautiful. All good!
