GTR sound question

GTR sound question
Greetings, now that the GTR market has dropped little in price, I have thought to purchase one. I am looking at a 2018 model and buy it as one of the last loud and satisfying gas cars. However I am wondering about the sound levels to expect. I have heard that the 18' model would be loud compared to cars today, but how do they compare other exotic cars such as McLaren and ferraris? Do you think a downpipe mod would be helpful to make it louder or is the stock form pleasing enough? I am wondering such as I really want a great sound experience for the last days of ICE vehicles. I sometimes drive a current gen bmw m4, which is pretty quite, and I know that cars around the same time as the amg gtr such as the g63 packs some volume, but not very loud in my opinion. I am wondering how the amg gtr would compare. Is it the louder of the bunch or only loud compared to current cars?
Appreciate any response!

Since we all have different taste in subjective subjects, not sure there's a best answer but here goes... I had an 2018 GTC and now a 2020 GTR... way more exhaust cracks and pops on the 18.. certainly have been tempted to change downpipes or remove secondary cats..So the 2018 does sound somewhat different ... but I've gotten use to the 2020 and am happy with the level of sound.. I did get a Renntech tune and at full throttle it sounds really good... and the Renntech tune brings a GTC to GTR level
By comparison, I have a F-12 with an X-pipe and a 991.2 TTS with Kline inconel exhaust...The F-12 could wake up the dead but sounds so freaking good at 7,000rpm..and even with the inconel exhaust, the TTS does not sound as nice as the GTR...There has been a number of guys drop the secondary cats and report back that the sound is must better... maybe there are some sound clips to listen to... The difference that I have had to learn is how much noise/sound do you want in normal driving vs full thottle... I think MB hits a sweet spot in a sport sound with their GTR exhaust system

Thank you. That is great to hear. Because modern cars are now far too quiet, I want something that can stand out while being able to drive it rather often.

My 2018 was just a plain vanilla GT, but it snapped and crackled. My 2020 is almost as quiet as my EVs. Quite a disappointment.

Coincidentally, I just completed the "production version" (after multiple prototypes) of a setup to record the GTR's exhaust sound -- externally -- when on the track. I've attached a little "demo" recording and some pics showing the setup. The "custom made" holder/under-support pieces are foam, to which cotton cloth was spay-glued then had fiberglassing/expoy resin applied, then painted. Everything can be easily removed and/or taken apart.

GT Sound
I also have a 2021 Shelby GT500. There is more similarity with the GT500 sound. Compared to the GT500 the GTC sounds more refined. The GT500 has more range in its loudness. Quiet mode is amazingly quiet. Sport and Track modes are louder than the GTC.

I was pulling into a parking lot with my unaltered 2020 GTR the other day and drove past a guy with his family. He came up to me as I was getting out and he said "boy, I can tell that car is special the way it sounds. Badass burble without being obnoxious. I think people over estimate the idea that loud cars sound good. Here in Silicon Valley there is no shortage of some of the nicest cars in the world. There is nothing special or remarkable about a loud car- There is something excellent about a car that has this level of performance without swinging its ***** around. Walk around a big city and watch the guys rev their exotics- then look at the faces of the people around. 95% screw up their faces like WTF is wrong with him. If you want a loud car go for it but people aren't going to be impressed and driving a lot with an overly loud car is obnoxious.
Good luck whatever you decide to do. I would suggest first buying it- then driving it then deciding if you think that car needs to be loud.
