GT Black series exhaust

Gents,
I have a wonderful 2021 GT Black series. Curious if anyone has done any exhaust modifications / has any first hand experience?
The car is amazing - could use a bit more exhaust note IMHO.
Appreciate any input!

Shmee upgraded his exhaust and ECU with Opus in Germany. I think he was very happy with the results ..both sound and performance. There is a Youtube video he did. I posted it up thread in the Black Series thread here.

Good luck

Saw the Shmee video and Opus’ exhaust seemed really nice. I tried contacting Opus many times. Occasional stock generic reply from them weeks later. Weird. Clearly not interested in sales for whatever reason.

fun ones.
Am I the only one who doesn't get this? car seems almost annoyingly loud inside (I know some of its piped in) not sure why you'd want louder?

Apparantly Lukas from Opus has been quite unwell (not sure how true this is).

Sorry to hear. I guess it's a small operation with noone else building/selling parts. Too bad. Looked like a cool product on the youtube video.

If was up to me, would get rid of the 'fake' piped in sound, and sound more like a GTR-Pro !

Most probably a shrieking, incessant drone. I’m not talking about any car exhaust btw! lol

Looks like no reply from Opus. Turns out Renntech sells an exhaust for the GT Black series. Requires cutting stock exhaust pipes to install, so not super reversible I suppose.
Curious, if anyone has tried it?

If I heard that, without seeing the video, I'd have assumed it was a straight piped civic.

You must have different Honda’s by you then I was around in my younger days

Id say leave the exhaust alone and get Red Star down pipes, then go from there if more needed. Downpipes are the only exhaust mod that will make any power difference to the car too until beyond 1,000+ hp.

Sounds eerily similar, except the civic is a bit deeper, sadly.

@mbjj57 if you looking for best quality exhaust from Russia, its better to grab "Deikin exhaust" or "Mike's custom"
however, i am not quite sure how shipping works right now

Opus's exhaust sounded great on Shmee's video, however they are not responding to multiple inquiries.
Anyone have first hand experience with Renntech's? From what little I know, requires cutting stock pipes to install, so perhaps a bit tricky and not fully reversible....

the easy way to determine this is to have someone who has both cars or one person with the black series and another person with the standard amg (or any other trim). And use a decibel meter at the same distance and location to determine volume. If there is no mention from mercedes that the black series has a louder exhaust im inclined to believe it does not. But on most of the stock mercedes exhausts they use packing m..aterial like someone else has mentioned which over time usually burns off a bit so it could be a matter of one exhaust being more use, maybe in a different climate or the car may have many more miles.. all of which would give the car a louder exhaust tone vs stock and new.

2019 AMG GT
When I bought my 2019 GT there were many used GT's in every configuration and ranging from 2017 to 2020. This was at SoCal's largest MB Dealer Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach. I took my time and drove every variant and years, with the exception of the Black but I did listen to its exhaust. I was grateful for the Sales Manager for allowing me to do this and to my ears the Black exhaust at idle was definitely the best and the loudest.

To my surprise though, the 2019 GT baseline (only 2019 on the lot at that time) was the best sounding of the years and very similar to the R (but not quite) when compared to the other variants to include the baseline GT(2017), GTS & C.

The Sales Manager told me, and I had no way to verify this, the 2019 exhaust was a one year only- AMG mechanic told me the same when he put it up on the lift for inspection.

My decision came down to the C convertible (an impressive configuration and experience) and the 2019 GT coupe which had 2000 miles in Silver/Red interior- my preference. I chose the GT for many reasons heavily influenced by the exhaust note.

My $0.02

I wasn’t clear.. so what is the reason they told you the black series exhaust was different?

They did not. It was my personal listening experience.

What they did tell me is that the 2019 GT (the one I purchased) had a different factory exhaust system and was a one year only.

Hope that clarifies it.

Sorry to say, but personally I like more the exhaust tone of the GTR than the one of the Black Series, the flat crankshaft gives a completely different sound

I think I will always prefer the sound of a flat crank vs a crossplane... I mean all the supercars use flat, ferrari, lamborgini, porsche, the new top of the line corvette etc.

Porsche has ever only made one car with a flat plane V8 and that is the 918. None of their V8 cars are flat plane. And obviously their 6 bangers are not. Lamborghini V10's and V12's are not flat plane either. The only two manufactures who use flat plane cranks commonly, are Ferrari and McLaren, and obviously only in V8's. The problem with the GT Black is that the intake is not tuned like Ferrari tunes their intakes. That's why it just sounds like two four bangers running together. No exhaust can really change that. What you hear in a Ferrari when it has a high pitched sound, starts in the intake, even on the turbo cars.

I guess not all but you can’t deny lambos have similar sound and I believe they tune and adjust the firing order and other things to give it the sound and feel of a flat plane crank.

Not sure if I think they tune them to sound like a flat plane crank V8, but I get what you mean. They sound like V10's and V12's and they tune them to be fairly high pitched. Lamborghini V10's are kind of interesting in their sound. If you listen to the original 5.0 litre V10 for example, that has a very smooth high pitched sound. The 5.2 in later models are more "rough" sounding. This is due to the fact that they changed the crank design, so the 5.2 are odd fire V10's whereas the 5.0 is an even-fire. This because they wanted a cheaper design. The even-fire V10 has 10 independent rod journals, whereas the odd-fire uses 5 counter weighted journals. This actually means that the 5.2 acts very much like a cross plane V8. It is also not as rev happy as the 5.0 even-fire version, just like a cross plane V8 with counter weights is not as rev happy as the flat plane engine without counter weights. If a Lamborghini did not utilise the intake design they do, that 5.2 would in fact sound much more like a Viper than an exotic.
