Thought it was interesting that the new SL63 is slower to 60mph vs the GTC (Car and Driver: 3.0 vs 2.9s), and the power to weight is about 11% worse.
I guess that's why there will be an SL73 and a new AMG GT
The real issue is the massive weight of the SL63. Why is it so heavy?? My only guess is structural preparation for electrification, starting with the SL73. Yes, the GTC below is not the cabriolet, but the curb weight of the GTC cabriolet is 3825, 12% lighter than the SL.
Except that the GTC 0-60 time is wishful thinking at best. The AMG GT BS, probably, but the GTC will be in the low to mid 3's at best. C&D best time with the GTR was 3.2 if memory serves.
The GTC roadster is officially listed 3825 lbs but was actually measured by AMS (German car mag) at 3745 lbs fully fueled (with CCB's).
The SL63 ePerformance 800+hp will only be momentary peak output (15 sec.?) and likely weigh 500 lbs more.
Yup. All the numbers are correct (0-60 3.5).
The faster time of the SL is because it's AWD - But, the better power to weight ratio of the GTC should mean it's faster at other speeds (e.g., rolling start).
So the entire premise of the thread is null as the SL is actually quicker to 60 LOL. Not entirely lost as it still demonstrates how much heavier the new “GT” will likely be on the SL chassis.
I WISH I could get my GT C to 60 consistently under 4 seconds. I’m getting more 3.9X’s now that I’ve had it a bit but it’s tough on a Florida 80-90 degree day and regular road. Need bigger/stickier rear tires than the factory 305 PS.

It's not. Did you read my last post?! The GTC (and GTR) have a better power:weight than the SL63. That means they will be faster under the right conditions.
GTC has 3mph trap speed but a .3 slower E/T, which is in-line with the addition of AWD and lower power/weight ratio. Supports the "GTC will win given a rolling start" argument above
