Giro Disc replacement rotors on GTR

Anyone had girodisc rotors installed on their GTR? I just got delivery and will be installing them in the next couple of months along with hawk performance 5.0 pads.

Good combo?

I cant say anything about the pads but I run girodisc rotors with cobalt friction XR1 pads. the girodiscs last longer (if you have proper cooling) than the stock ones.

I am using Girodisc for couple of year now. For street and occasional spirited driving, I can’t say I feel a major difference between the OE and Girodisc. However, for track days, there is a big difference. They are lighter and more importantly - cool faster, an important variable on the track.

I am not familiar with the Hawk performance 5.0 pads. I coupled mine with a set of PAGID RSL29 pads, which are endurance racing pads. This combination works extremely well for street/track mixed use, with great fade resistance at pad temperatures exceeding 1000 Deg F during track use.

Girodisc recommend replacing the pads when it gets to 1/3 of the original pad thickness or 4mm in order to increase the longevity of the discs.

Are your OEM rotors worn? If so, how many miles on the car? Was it tracked?

Im at 22k miles and current rotors are showing very thin crack lines around the holes on the rotors…

pads are still good but i was told under extreme conditions (on track) the rotors can be dangerous

i will try to post a pic later in the day of the rotors

Small ‘cracks’ radiating from a drill hole is normal; they’re stress/heat related. Unless they go from hole to hole or to the rim you should be fine.

Hi Y.Haider,
IMO the disc looks rather normal for 22K miles. However, you already purchased the Girodisc, which are great. My only concern is that the Hawk performance 5.0 are street performance pads and has a limited optimal temperature range to 550F. On track, it's easy to get these pads closer to 1000F at times, so you may have problems with these. I track my car with PAGID RSL29, they run 1000F with no issues, and they last. They are also very good for street driving as far as smooth bite at temperature of sub 500F (CoF = 0.4). The only downside of the PAGID is price, and some occasional squeal noise during low-speed break during cold winter days.

You will get more dust than the OE, unfortunately. Most if not all race pads generate more dust then street pads. That comes with the territory. The solution: CCB, but I personally prefer iron for track days.

Those rotors are fine; they have mild heat/stress cracks as mentioned. If you can easily catch your finger nail in a ‘crack’, or if they run from one hole to another or to the edge of the rotor, then think about replacement.

I’d say the car had been tracked before your purchase, yes?

Could be, i bought it with 9k miles on it and the dealership who did the inspection did not point at it as any concern but ive had my eyes on the rotors and it hasnt gotten worse under my ownership. Im at 21,500 miles 2 years later

They are no carbon ceramics but i was expecting better bite from oem brakes hence i felt the need to switch

ill just sit on the girodisc rotors since i bought them already until i really need them
