So I’m switching out the center console on my GTC from piano black to aluminum. It’s OEM from the dealer. The aluminum console has three tabs on the front that interfere with the switch panel just below the center vents. The original piano black one that came with the car doesn’t have these tabs. Long story short the tabs are interfering with the switch panel and won’t allow the console to go in. Since the black one doesn’t have then should I trim them off??? It’s an expensive part that was hard to find. I don’t want to butcher it if I don’t have to.
Whay year GTC? Is it the digital one or the dial and push button one? If you can include a pic...worth a thousand words...
On the trim piece above the console, if you have the dial then the center tab on the console is unnecessary. If the trim piece is plain with no electronics that panel does have a trim lock fastener. The tabs on the outer ends of the console should be needed to secure the trim piece above it.
Here is a pic of the trim piece without the electronics. This version would use the three tabs.
The two end tabs are necessary otherwise the upper panel with the HVAC controls won't snap in. The center tab on the new console is unnecessary.
If you turn the red filler panel over you should see two spring clips, one at each end. These snap into the end tabs on the console. The center tab is not needed.

Your stock Console is. A190 680 12 02 -> Black (PAK) Carbone Flat, (H77) AEJ < 18/2)
Silver Console is: A190 680 10 02 (But its Carbone gloss)
Dont find silver with Carbone flat.
Maybe Acta´s solution is the easy way.
Check. Is your stock console also cut?
Don´t find different numbers. (Coupé / Roadster)
I think that's because the roadster came later.
The coupé has the switches in the roof, so that part doesn't bother.
(GTR doesn't have the center mount either, because of the TC)
Best Regards

On my car, I have two end tabs and no middle tab, yet the trim piece is plain with no electronics. The trim piece even has a spring clip but there is no center tab. Mine is all factory, never been taken apart in the field. I am concluding even though they technically have different part numbers for every possible option, that they fit anyway and they are routinely using whatever inventory they need.
Again, on mine, you can see the trim piece with 3 spring clips, but the console only has two end tabs, no center tab...from the factory.
Is the new console bare, or did it come with all the electronics?
If you already have the old one out (maybe you do but cannot tell by the pics) then you're on your way, but if you're just getting started, I've had the entire console out a few times now and can carry you through it if needed.
Console is bare. My buddy owns a autobody shop that specializes in exotic cars. The guy who’s doing it is pretty good. That said any tips you can offer??
OK, if the frame you bought is bare, then checking fit is going to be easy. Regarding the correct P/N, with a bare frame you'll only need to concern yourself with the tab that we're talking about cutting. All of your electronics will just transfer over and there won't be any conflict there.
Back to the disassembly.
The key to removing the console is to start on the other end. Open up the glove box. There is a dress plate that lifts out.
Remove this dress plate to expose two torx screws.
In this pic I have the screws out, but you can see where they will be.
With those tow screws out you can now lift the back end of the console out then it slides BACKWARD off the lock pins in the front of the console.
Make sure you have the red leather dress plate removed from the front of the console first.
The lock pins that secure the console at the top are the two plastic pins I marked with RED arrows in an earlier post. There is one on either end of the console.
Here is a pic of the way those lock pins (the ones with the red arrows) trap the top of the console so it locks in.
Here is a bare console with the center tab cut, to show it again. Two screws from the bottom first, then lift and slide backward off the two lock pins at the top.
There is a liberal amount of harness to allow you to relocate the console off to the side. Passenger's seat is the better side.
Now just make your electronic moves one at a time into the new console, then reassemble starting with those two lock pins at the top. Slide in the top ,then set the console down so the bottom bracket holes line up. The console will also need to trap the console side dress panels, so if you get any binding as you're trying to lower the console down, the side panels will probably be the culprit.
