Can I fully disable ABA & install a 5 point harness in GTR? If not dealbraker.

Considering a GTR mostly for track weekends and I want to confirm the following which is key to my decision.
1-Can I fully disable Automatic Brake Assist? Per the posts I have read, It seems you can "disable it" but that only dials it back meaning that it is still on which is dangerous at the track.
2-Can I install track seats with a 5-point harness and if yes, what parts are needed? I will only track a car with a 5-point harness so want to ensure this is possible without custom fabrication.
Really like the car but if this is not possible, I will have to look for another option.
Thanks to everyone.

1. Yes you can fully disable ABA, but you have to completely disable ESP which enables the TC knob.
2. You need a roll bar at a minimum for 4 point, and will need a sub bar to run 5 or 6 points. For the sub bar you will need some custom fab which will lead into requiring race bucket seats with brackets to adapt from seat frame to the mounting points on the car. I started a thread on this forum with what I did to run a 6 point harness.

Thanks for your response. On the 5 or 6 point harness, I am aware of the need for racing buckets and roll bar. However, are you saying that there is no off the shelf existing options for: a)brackets to mount the racing buckets and b) sub bar? I saw your thread on the custom install (pretty impressive!). However, I was truly hoping to buy some components off the shelf and have them installed vs doing a custom fab where quality may vary. Seems very odd that for a "track focused car" there are no OEM or aftermarket options for what seems I consider a "must haves" for any track car.

Look up the Brey-Krause stuff for Porsche.
It looks very, very close to my bracket and I think it could be adapted to our cars with little effort.

I may have used this picture for inspiration with my mount...

Thanks - has anyone tried this on a GTR? Would hate to get it and find out the holes are 1/2 inch off...

@canucklehead, did you ever figure out a way to access steering column adjustment and erase error codes (air bags etc) after the install?

.
For Point 1, some have found it helpful to use metallic/shielding tape over the large 3 Point Star front bumper Distronic Radar, and over each of the front and rear bumper sensors

Airbag error codes can be erased with Carly for Mercedes app via their bespoke OBD dongle

Since airbags will be disabled, etc, may look into a true Halo seat for added lateral head protection, not just a 'track seat'

No. For me it is not a huge issue. I have set the column in my preferred race position and left it. I really only track the car so DD comfort not an issue.
From what others have posted, you can pull the module from under the original seat and plug it in to get some functionality back. I have not had time to try this.

To fully disable ABA:

1: ‘Race’ mode;
2: turn off ESP fully;
3: in the DIC; scroll to driver’s aid; find ABA and disable. *

It will be 100% off.

* I don’t have the manual in front of me so can’t list the exact steps necessary when using the ‘Driver’s Information Center’

Thanks you - so in summary:
1-Yes, ABA can be fully disabled
2-Steering column cannot be adjusted after installing race buckets
3-How about parts needed to install race buckets? I do not want to have to build anything as I would trust more something off the shelf. I know the half cage is available OEM and from some reputable sellers (eg renntech) but want to be able to buy all the other parts needed (eg seat brackets, etc)

I wish I had an answer for you, Peter re: race seats; belts, etc. The car would definitely be even more fun on track with a decent restraint system.

The ROW OEM Race Buckets along with the OEM half cage would seem the perfect solution IF you could source them and IF there was a solution for the 5th belt. That might still allow the steering column to adjust.

I am very surprised that there hasn’t been a reputable shop that hasn’t put together a package for the above, including all necessary installation equipment. I think that says a lot about 1: the total number of GTRs sold, and 2: the number of the total that are actually tracked.

Hopefully Mariano might post soon as he has tons of laps at COTA in his GTR and might well have a seat/belt solution.
