Site Poor Feedback - why??
Do people on this site not like 'modifying or maintaining' their MB sports cars?
I have had many performance motorcycles and cars overs the last 40 years and sadly this site is by far the worst for feedback!
Do people just not bother with MB sports cars?

I have great admiration for people who build/mod a track car and, had I not started into this so late in life, would have done so myself. Instead, I "did it the easy way" and got an AMG. Still so much fun. Regardless, I still enjoy talking cars and getting a ride in anything from a Miata to a McLaren, on the track.
To your "challenge" comment ... did something like that in the 1970's. Never took pictures, in those days, so this is the only pic I have ... which I recovered from a very darkened, very blurry, very old Polaroid (remember those) print. It was the car's maiden 200 mi trip and still had primer (oh, pardon me ... matte-grey paint!) and steel wheels (mags and tires had not arrived yet). It was fiberglass on a shortened VW bug platform (the car we all had so much fun making into something else). I had the molds which were a '60s Lotus Europa knockoff. I'd added the front splitter. Car weighed under 1,500 lb with a near-full tank and me in it. Fun project:
Yes, those are bell-bottom jeans. Yes, I had long hair. Yes, it was the mid '70s. No, I really wouldn't want to be that young again, in today's world.

The average age in this specific section, feels like it's much older, and for whatever reason older guys, especially in the MB space, seem to take personal offense to any modifications done to cars.

There is definitely a lower rate of modding MB's than other brands. More luck the C63/E63 sections. Few mod their GT models apart for track purposes. Maybe a good time for you to lead the way

I love my Renntech AMG GTR and would like to do more to the car, but few seem willing to go to the next step!
I am now considering a Renntech Black Series.
This platform is sooo good, i don't understand why MB stopped producing them!
A wee story ....
A few weeks ago, i was going North on the interstate, in my stock 720s, which based on my Dragy times, is VERY strong, compared to others, and i ran across a 'late model' E63s AMG Wagon, we followed one another for a while and on a couple of nice straights, we did some 'rips' and to my shock, this 'tank' matched my acceleration from 100 - 180 mph .... obviously modified, but still, i was stunned ... what a great car!
I am now considering a Renntech Black Series.

When people ask for our opinions and we tell them what they've done is sh*t, we get real solid feedback.
I am one of those older guys who thinks that almost every modification is dumb. All those people lowering their cars? Mine already scrapes. Festooning it with extra carbon fiber bits, overlaid onto what's already there? Increases the weight. Wider tires for daily drivers? Bad idea.
Since these opinions are not appreciated I have learned not to respond to guys who want "feedback." They are snowflakes who want us to tell them the mods look great and that they didn't waste their money. Which, of course, they did.

What they don't understand or are too ignorant to admit, is that cars are made to a 'price point' or certain limits of 'regulation', that don't apply in all locations, so modifying these cars can make them significantly better!
An AMG GTR / BS is a very good car, Renntech makes it a GREAT car, with no loss of drivability ..... without Renntech's modifications, i would have become bored with the car and sold it, now i have a new passion for it!
.... without people modifying cars, we would all be driving Model T's!.

Wing and tune
I swapped out the automatic wing on my GTC for a fixed carbon fiber wing and got negative feedback from one of the present grumps. I hated that automatic wing going up and down all the time and consider it a poor design element. Like someone else said, my GTC really woke up after I tuned it and feels sluggish to me without it. I don't like flashy so I don't go for the cosmetic mods but am fully supportive of anyone doing them. I've seen a GTR slightly lowered and it was sick looking. Life's short. Do what you want to do and enjoy every moment of our short time on this planet!

Older age of MB owners specifically and luxury cars generally and higher financial means generally points to less DIY. Not to be confused with no DIY, just less than an early 2000s Toyota forum.
It’s not hard to assess owner profile from posts on this site - older and smaller/cheaper models have more DIY. The E63 and C63 crowds seem to do some modding for 1/4 mile times.

i have enough things to worry about keeping it running strong for what it is as a used car outside of warranty. I agreed to paid a certain price for what I was to receive and I'm good with it. My favorite mods are tires and brake compounds anyway. The engine has been a wonderfully tasteful powerplant for me

I've seen that it mostly depends on the age group related to the forum or vehicle you're driving. So if you bought a car that fits a certain bracket (for all the reasons previously mentioned above), that's what you can expect. Don't be angry at us because you can't get what you need.

I'm amused by all the vanity modding and even more amused when the modder comes here to get confirmatory feedback. Because the poster wants people to tell him he did the right thing, I don't respond with my actual opinion. Why ruin some guy's day? But angry? No. It's not my car that has been vandalized.

I doubt buying an AMG GT (even the starter model) constitutes conforming to normality or buying "a cookie cutter thing." But who am I to disagree with you, another anonymous poster on this site? I don't want to ruin your day. I do, however, find ways to express myself creatively. I just don't do it by acts of vandalism. Oh, I should add - I'm also not miserable. Your post was quite amusing.

I guess we can sort of argue that the car is perfect-ish how it is from the factory stock, the height is good, the tires are good enough, the performance is good, the handling, the cosmetics/looks, the features, etc.
Modding does however make a good car more unique and catered to personal taste, for those who want to have a vehicle that is unique to them.

Take out the word "more" and I understand. (Unique means "singular." "More unique" doesn't make sense. "More different" would be correct, but an awkward construction in English. So, just use "unique.") But a lot of mods are for vanity only. Is it legitimate to mod a car for vanity reasons? Of course it is if it makes you feel good. Wnatever floats your boat. But, when people come here and ask for validation, some of us just remain quiet. Thus, "no feedback."
Well, glad you mentioned the word "a lot of" which means there are still mods that isn't just vanity. Perhaps illuminated star and those flashy stickers some people put on the steering wheel is indeed for vanity only.
Practical mods like lighter forged wheels to decrease weight, getting rid of run-flats (for vehicles equipped with from factory) to improve ride quality and perhaps different tires (handling, noise, ride) for different use, more road use or more track use? Or for more road use, something with less tire noise and better wear and stability in wet and dry weather, better aftermarket brake pads to reduce brake dust, tinting (vanity wise: looks cool for those who like it... practical wise: especially with quality ceramic tint, it helps reduce heat and blocks UV, which protects the interior from wear, also helps save energy/fuel). Others like wrap (vanity wise catered to personal taste, practical wise protects factory paint), waxing, PPF, Ceramic coating are all good for protecting the car paint and makes washing easier, better windshield wipers that don't chatter or squeak? Just to name a few mods.

My comments, naturally, pertain only to Mercs. As some of you may remember, last year I leased an Audi e-tron GT. It was painted a horrendous "Tactical Green," which is pus-colored. I had the dealer wrap it inn brilliant blue before I would take it.
A vanity mod, of course. But necessary.

I signed up for Mercedes benz club of america, its filled with old folks who drive older S class, sl500 etc.. its killing the AMG brand..
look at porsche club and bmw club.. its in the hands of young folks and they do well and host alot of track events
mbca on the other hand has not helped with the young generation that are buying c63, e63, gt63 etc
