I don't know. I'm not even sure it was a porter. The shop at this dealership can be a bit crowded.

I've had worse. Back in 2007 I brought my brand new M6 Interlagos blue convertible to the local BMW dealer for the break-in service. The dealer advertised a touch up service and because I drove the car hard I had a few stone chips. I asked them to touch it up.

When I went to pick the car up there was an 18 inch long scratch on the hood about an eighth of an inch wide. It had been touched up; of course it looked awful. The scratch was in a straight line, so it looked as if there was something above the hood that touched it and the guy driving the car just kept driving straight until he figured out he was beating the sh** out of the car.

The dealership didn't point out the damage to me. When I pointed out the scratch the service rep said "We touched it up, just like you said." That really pi**ed me off. I showed him the sign in sheet which showed 3 or 4 stone chips and told him I wanted it fixed by Prestige in the Valley which was, at the time, a superior repair shop. It took a couple of weeks but when I got it back it was perfect and the stone chips were gone too. Although I had a bunch of other cars at the time I did ask for an M5 with a stick for the two weeks it was in the shop. (The M6 had the awful SMG transmission. The stick shift was like butter.)

Ugh....always my worst nightmare with taking my cars anywhere. You definitely have a great attitude about it though!

I think you're right. I wonder what the other car looks like. And how pi**ed off the other owner was. I never raised my voice or said a "discouraging word." I just calmly told the service manager what I needed to make me whole. He agreed to everything and had already offered to put on a new bumper.

I've found that when people who should be angry are calm but insistent, they do better in negotiations than the angry, loud people. Calm people are scarier.

First World problems. The time I had to radio my Battalion Commander at 0330 hours on German Reunification Day about a military vehicle accident involving a Soldier in my Company with one dead and one in ICU. Both foreign nationals. We can ***** about a bumper but be grateful it is only a bumper.

Everything is relative folks. Perspective is everything.

It's only a bumper. Not a human being. This is an easy fix and I salute the OP for his understanding that **** happens.

I went to inspect the progress of the work being done to the car repair and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was finished and that the car was in the body shop's portico away from the sun. The color match was perfect and the tolerances/clearances were symmetrical and appeared as they had before the bumper replacement. I was also assured there was no report to CarMax.

The car is being sent back to my dealer Monday and I will have the dealer deliver it to my house.

The dealer was on top of the situation after damaging the car and the service reps worked hard to make sure I was pleased. I am.

A client of mine is an automobile broker. I had him run my VIN on CarFax to make sure there was no report. It was clean. I'll run it again in a month.

Trust but verify.

LOL Carfax is the least of your troubles; You just told every subscriber to this forum that your car was damaged. If you were really smart you wouldn't have posted anything and just had the dealership fix it like they did. Are you really a loi-r ?

Gee, you're right. When my heirs sell this car in 15-20 years the whole world will know! Boy was I a fool. Maybe I should have you sitting on my right shoulder before I venture out onto the Internet. (But I doubt I could afford whatever it is you charge for your "wisdom.")

This wasn't frame damage were talking about here. It's purely cosmetic. Unfortunately a ding on a Carfax report can turn off potential buyers.

I don't think MalibuScott was planning on lying about the damage, but maybe just wants a chance to explain and show pictures if/when he decides to sell.

I don't think that's funny and I think you're now embarrassing yourself. I treat others the way I would expect them to treat me. Apparently you do not; thus your belief certain people are "all born to lie." That's sad.

I don't plan to sell the GT, but if I were to do so, I would not conceal the fact that it has been repaired.

Apparently old enough to afford a GT. But unable to participate like an adult on an anonymous board. Truly sad.

OP, FWIW, I think you are doing the right thing. I bought my 2005 E55 with satisfaction after the previous owner was upfront with me about the paint repair after the car was seriously keyed. I inspected, the repaint was great, and I don't regret my purchase. S**t happens.
If I ever sell my car and a potential buyer tries to argue the price down over the paint repair, I will not sell to that rat ba***rd. Stand fast.
I'm enjoying this thread.
Non sequitur: if you ever break down in the Texas Panhandle, Mercedes Benz of Lubbock is great! Just off Buddy Holly Avenue.

bbirdwell - my last time driving in Texas was February 1972. I was on Senator Ed Muskie's national campaign staff (yes, I'm old) and in Dallas-Ft. Worth doing some reconnaissance. I was driving my white 1971 BMW Bavaria with California license plates. I had hair down to my collar. (Not a hippie!) Every morning when I got on the North Dallas Tollway a Dallas PD cruiser fell in behind me about 5 feet from my rear bumper. It followed me everywhere. Kind of a police escort in reverse. I was sent home from Dallas after the campaign blew up over the "Canuck letter."

So I haven't had any interest in driving in Texas since. But thanks for the tip. I assume you Texans are now used to German cars on your roads.

The car was delivered to my house this afternoon and has been tucked away next to my other GT. I went over the paperwork and saw that the technician had adjusted my tire pressures to 36/39. I wrote my service rep and he said it was his oldest, most trusted technician and that he knew what he was doing. I sent a photo of the label on the inside of the fuel lid and got a mea culpa. I hope that when I drive the car the light doesn't come on telling me it's got an oil overfill. (It took me three years to train the service reps when I had my GT coupe that there was a specific way to change the oil; you'd think that now that there are so many 4 liter V8 AMGs that they would learn. But apparently the service techs can't be bothered to read the labels inside the fuel lids, so who knows what else they can't do right.)

The dealer will remain nameless. It was not a great A Service experience.

It's not like he posted his VIN. Also, we all know the damage was very minor. A random person reading a Carfax report, that stated this accident, wouldn't know it was minor parking lot damage at a dealer and generally would assume the worse. I know I would.
