That scoop or whatever it is called behind the front wheels is pretty jolting. It really upsets the flow of the side view of the car .And it's just the SL with a hard top and that discordant scoop. I don't know why it took Mercedes an extra 18 months to churn this out. I guess there were still a lot of GTR and Black variants to sell.
Car looks better than I had thought it might. Big question now is: how will the more ‘track’ oriented versions perform. With AWD we might just be surprised. But at what cost given the sky high price of the SL!
I’m not a buyer for this car but I have to say I’m impressed. Was scared they were gonna screw it up from what we saw in testing but I think it should be a hit if they price it right. Not sure about the headlights but the rear end looks stunning IMO. Overall I think it looks great, although a couple extra inches in the front wouldn’t hurt. Shame about the disappearance of the transaxle, I’m sure that’ll deter more than a few buyers, namely previous gen GT owners.
Not to be a downer, but this car weighs almost 800lbs more. No rear transaxle for the ideal weight balance, 9 speed auto instead of the 7.
It feels like a car made for the Porsche 911 4S/GTS 4 crowd. History tells us no one makes a better 911 than Porsche lol.
What we do know now is that Mercedes makes these on the same architecture as the SL. Which means they saved a lot of development investment at the cost of limiting race car aspects the current gen has. That being said I’m sure it will set records. The e-performance version in spy shots will prob have insane stats.
Pics of the interior in the official press release. Surprised it gets the old AMG Performance seats instead of the new ones from the C43/C63. Great looking car I must say. Perhaps a bit too much Porsche 911. As I said previously, it's now an actual GT true to its name. Great choice to go with the 9-MCT. Excellent transmission for a road performance car. Love this transmission. The DCT is great for sequential shifting, but in normal driving where you end up skipping gears and shift out of sequence the DCT can't keep up with the MCT. The MCT drops 5 gears in the blink of an eye whereas the DCT falls over itself hunting for the right cog.

I actually think that because they took much inspiration from the GTR, the GT65 with the Aero package looks really good. Oddly enough, the front 3/4 view reminds me of an R35 Nissan GT-R.
It will be interesting to see how it drives; tbh I don't expect it to be much slower than the previous GTR on many a road course, simply because of the AWD and the ability to get the power down out of a corner faster; at least for us mere mortals.
The upcoming higher performance versions will probably be really special; let's hope the Corporate Attorneys here in the USA allows the fitment of much better bucket seats such as the LWBS found in the Porsche GT variants, as those seats are brilliant on a road course as well as being much more comfortable on the street than they have any right to be.
$64 million ?: what is it all going to cost? I fear not just a left ********, but the corresponding kidney as well, which is a shame given it will restrict sales to track oriented individuals not wanting to fully exercise their new $250,000 AMG GT63 'R' on track and risk damaging it.

PS: the car really does show the SL to be the ugly 'Sister' it is; that grill!?!?!
It's nice, doesn't look as special or 'unique' as the first generation GT 2-door. Why did they have to follow Porsche's design language with the connected bar rear taillights?
I prefer the first generation, I feel it will be a classic in the future. No other car looked or looks like it, one of my favorite designs of all time.

Well, a great part of the car was inspired by the 911, that said, the connected bar was inspired by their EQ models like the EQS, just glad it isn't actually a light bar.

Thanks, Bish. I went a little nuts.
My Father bought a Rolls-Royce in 1960. It was Red Skelton's 1959 Silver Cloud. I really liked the car so before I was 16 my Father bought me a 20-25 sedan from Lee Marvin's son. (Yes, it was used. But no, I didn't buy it.) The car was really beaten up and I could never get the engine to turn over. We eventually junked the car. But my interest was piqued in the marque.
There was one Roller I really wanted, all through my youth and to the present. A Phantom II Brewster Henley Roadster. But the few of them that have survived are really expensive and they rarely came up on the auction block. The garage-mate of this car was an unrestored 1931 P II Henley Roadster that came up for auction in Monterey last year, but it sold for $1,297,000, which was too rich for my blood. The Playboy body style was not quite as modern (for the times) but it was dashing and a poor man's Henley. So when it came up on the block last June I was determined to buy it.
My first GT was blue. My BMW M6 was blue. Most of the other cars in my fleet have been blue. So this fits my tastes really well.
As an officer of the court you should be driving a Rolls.
Twin plug flathead I-6. What is the displacement?
Very beautiful car although the steering wheel is on the incorrect side ; )

It's among the last Silver Ghosts manufactured in Springfield. So I'm not sure if the displacement is 7.4 or 7.7 liters. (The chassis was being built side-by-side with the New Phantom chassis.)
