RATS!! No, Literally, Rats Were the Issue!!
So, after weeks of thinking my battery was dead and then discovering that it wasn't, I took the car to my indy MB service joint to read the codes. Well, after about 10 minutes he came into the waiting room with the business end of an AC sensor that had been bitten off by a rat. He then found an IAT sensor destroyed and an SRS sensor ruined. $1,000 later, I have a car with no dash lights. Now I need to make sure this doesn't happen again when my car isn't driven for an extended period. Apparently, this isn't uncommon.

This is like the 4th story I have heard in the last month about rats/mice getting into benzes. Went to my dealer and they had 3 cars in from different owners with mice eating thru the wire harnesses.
And the crazy one was a 2022 S Class that has over $30k in damage.
Well looks like its time for Garfield to sleep in the garage a few nights.

Same thing has happened multiple times with my Viper over the years (thankfully nothing with my GTR so far). To save you some time, there aren't a lot of solutions out there that'll really work except (1) driving the car regularly and (2) traps. Don't waste your time on deterrent sprays or poisons - they don't work. I literally put traps inside the engine bay now, and I've caught around 5 rats in the last decade or so.

Totally agree...traps are the only real way. We use a combo of glue traps (amazing in the summer!) and the normal snap traps. We usually catch them in waves. We'll get several then nothing...then several again.

holy ****, that's nuts that this is such a common thing. i really got lucky that it was ONLY a grand and not far more. as much as i'm an animal lover, i think snap traps (no suffering) are the only way to avoid this again. uuuugggggg

Yes, and the funniest part is the guys homeowner insurance says they will have the car taken to a shop that will repair the wires so the harnesses don’t have to be replaced, and if that happens Benz will void the warranty on the car. A 2022 S class. Wow. But the owner said nope car stays there and got his lawyer involved. It’s a mess. All from little mouse.
