So I am struggling with one option on a new 2024 AMG GT63 coupe that I will be lucky enough to be getting later this year.
The car is offered with a panoramic sunroof option. I am not sure it is worth it though and wanted some opinions/advice.
Here are the pros:
1. it looks nice from exterior since the roof is large piece of black glass.
2. gives the sense of a more “airy cabin” on the inside.
cons:
1. It is heavy in the worst place on the car
2. it can get hotter in the summer and I live in north Texas
3. You can’t even open it
4. it’s expensive for what you get. This option costs $2100 and you are also required to option the dinamica microfiber headliner for an extra $1600. So effectively the glass roof costs an extra $3700.
5. You lose a little bit of headroom.
I would add that to my GT53 in a heartbeat for 2100. I've experienced one in a S63 and it's an incredible view, almost feels like you're in a convertible. You should try to find any model that has one locally and test drive it to see what you think of them in general. After that, you'll know for sure.
I would add it. The weight won't make much of a difference on a 4300÷ pound car, it looks good and provides a airiness like OP said and the microfiber headliner is a plus too...looks sporting and the color is the easiest to maintain. I'd make sure the visors are also in microfiber.
Saw the car in the flesh yesterday boy it’s gorgeous. I’m still working through a build on what I want, and I decided against it. I rather a carbon fiber roof as the other poster mentions, looked great on one of my Porsche’s. Also I never open the sun room or shade in my Gwagon/prefer the extra headroom. For me it’s an unless option for me personally, but I do see the cool factor just not for me.

I had it on my 2018 coupe and as long as you can pull a shade over it I would have it again. It does give a needed feeling of spaciousness in an otherwise somewhat cramped cabin.
(In addition to my GT cabriolet, I have an Audi GT etron with a similar fixed sunroof but with no option to pull closed a shade. It's one of the weak points of that car.)
