Gt 55 vs Gt 63 2024
Hello everyone,
I recently sold my C63S and GLA 45, and I'm currently in the market for a new vehicle. I'm considering the GT 55, but I'm also curious if the GT 63 is worth the additional $40k. If I do decide to go with either, I would like to configure it tailored to my needs. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
ps. Not going to track the car.
mostly weekend drive with wifey.
Thanks in advance!

Unless you have an extra 40k burning a hole in your pocket, the answer is definitely no, imho. I think they overpriced the 63 by about 20k. If you were going to track it, which you say you aren’t, it may be worth it. However for a weekend or daily car the difference is negligible and hard to tell for seat of the pants feel. Not sure you would be doing much 0-60 runs with the wifey. I ended up with the 55 and had the delta been 15-20k difference I would have gone with the 63 but no way for 40k.

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking of putting the extra $$$$ towards the GT 55 AMG instead. What options/upgrades do you recommend? How do you like the GT 55? Is there another difference between the GT 63 and the GT 55 aside from the engine?

The 63 has a few things that are standard on the 63 and options on the 55. Some are: multicontour seats, ventilated seats, HUD, Again, all of those are available on the 55 but standard on the 63.
I have been very impressed with mine and it is a huge upgrade in comfort over the last series. The only complaint is the gas mileage. I am getting anywhere from 11-15 mpg and that is with normal driving.
if you look on the ordering guide, there are not many options. Most are coming in from 150-160k.

In reality the price difference is less than 40k:
Adding 63 standard options to the 55 base price brings them closer!
However, still could be too much for casual weekend trips.

^^ Depends on how it's optioned. Nearly fully loaded and equally optioned the way I'd get it with performance seats and such, the difference is $42k. The pricing of the GT is even more wackadoodle than the SL. All the performance options such as Race mode, Active suspension, dynamic engines mounts, rear locking differential are standard on both the 55 and 63 and the price difference is still $40k. At least if you add those to the SL55 the price difference to the 63 shrinks. So with the GT 63 you basically pay $40k for an additional ~100 hp. That's nuts!

it’s actually 38k difference if you spec the identical cars and add the options to the 55 to give it the same options as the 63.

Looks like there is a bug in superswiss’ calculator as he claims the $40k, or even higher difference.
Would be interesting to see his “fully optioned” comparison between the two?

Thanks, this sounds about right. In any scenario of apples to apples comparison there is about $37-38k difference.

Yes, the difference is actually more like $44k. Roughly identically configured GT 55 and GT 63: Just minor difference in a couple of hindered dollar options such as yellow seatbelts on the 63.

Why GT 55 does not have HUD, as one simple example?
Can you add HUD and other options that are standard on the 63. What is the difference then?

Ok, I missed the HUD. Now the difference is $42k as I said originally. Not sure what you are trying to prove. It's roughly $40k difference. I don't see any other options I can add. Practically added everything, except for what's optional on the 63 as well and I wouldn't get on either one.

oh boy, the brake dust is out of control with this car. I could wash the wheels every morning and still have brake dust by the afternoon. With the black wheels the brake dust is a weird orange tint color. Glad most of my other cars are CCB.

I'm sure the 63 is great but I'd be surprised if you felt anything was missing in performance of the 55.

Normally, I would walk in and drive the 63 and not even bother looking at the 55. But the price delta and the fact that the dealer had a 55 spec'd very close to what I wanted made me rethink this approach. I went in to test drive the 55 and 63 back to back. When we came back from the 55 test drive - I bought the 55 and never bothered driving the 63. I love the 55. It is truly an amazing car to drive. My MSRP was approx 151K and it has everything I wanted except for ventilated seats and the glass roof. I have a long relationship with the dealer and they offered to build a car for me - but I loved the drive of the car so much I decided I'd rather take the car they had in stock vs waiting 3 months.

55 is a nice sporty car, but missing that familiar pull from 63 engine. Figured this is worth about -37k price adder.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with both the GT 55 and GT 63. I truly appreciate your insights.
I am curious, do you find that the car feels heavy while driving, considering its weight of over 4000lbs

Yea, I think we decided for the price point we'd rather have the Gt55's... hard sometimes on those 200k cars... I drove it and it feels lighter than it is... granted I didnt push it or wot it since its not mine..and new (not broken in)
