Front wheel bearing replacement

My GTS needs front wheel bearing replacement and dealer is asking ridiculous sum of money for the job. The replacement itself seems simple enough, but anyone have torque specs or diy instructions? I found few of those from youtube, but nothing GT specific.

Thanks for the help!

You could try checking the car's service manual for specific torque specs, or forums dedicated to your GTS model. If you're handy with tools, a DIY approach might save you a lot. YouTube videos can be a good guide, but make sure they align with your model’s specifics.

Perhaps I’m showing my ignorance here, but aren’t ’wheel bearings’ essentially sealed/lubricated for life units now? I mean this isn’t the 1970’s!!

Yes and when they go bad you unbolt the bearing assembly and replace it all.

I guess my point, Katie is that I can’t remember on any of the forums I’m on, owners having to replace wheel bearings, especially in cars that are only 5 years old, or newer!

Why are the GT cars needing this maintenance on a ‘lifetime’ part so early in the car’s ‘life’?

Thanks for all the answers! And the ebay online wis tip was especially good, thanks!
And I'm also little suprised that the bearings are already bad, cars only done 45000km (under 28 000 miles).

Yes my Maybach front bearing went out at 50k miles. Thats WAY earlier than I would have ever thought. By the way wheel bearings are NOT lifetime parts they wear out just like brake pads just usually last a LOT longer than brake pads.

NOW this is the approach I took. I found that the front bearing on my Maybach was about 900 dollars. I found a China bearing on Ebay for about 120. After discovering how EASY it was to replace I ended up getting the China bearing and it worked great till the day I sold the car. If I was going to do this job for a customer it would be OEM parts but since it was my car and the OEM died so early I was willing to try the China one. Glad I did.

Let’s hope the Chinese knock off that hadn’t gone through any mandated requirements doesn’t fail for the new owner then.

I understand what your saying understand I sold the car with 75k and I replaced the bearing in the 50k range all was well at the time of sale. I also believe I logged what I did in the maintenance log that I gave the new owner so he knows.
