Sound deadener installed

I really like this car but the road noise inside the cabin is really bad, so I decided to install sound deadening to most of the interior. Started with the trunk area and moved forward into the cabin.
Went with 120 mil on the floors and 80 mil on the panels etc.

Removed the door cards, most panels, carpets and seats, for the cabin I didn’t want to mess with removing the Center console but I was able to pull the carpet back enough to reach most of the floor, the doors I installed the deadener on the door skins.

Used about 95 sqf of sound deadening, I know I also added a bit of weight but to me it’s worth the trade off if it works, unfortunately I won’t be able to test it out until the spring because I store the car for the winter.

here are some picks.

It looks difficult but it’s actually very easy to take this car apart, worse part is the seats but even that’s not too bad.

Thanks, I am very happy with the install.
It was actually very easy to install, the glue only activates when pressed or rolled so there is plenty if time to position the mats.

Curious, did you happen to weigh the material before installing to have an idea of how much weight gain or you are planning to weigh the vehicle afterwards?

Yup, I did it in my 991.1 GTS. It's just the cutting and precision of making it look good. I got lazy toward the end. Yours looks really nice.

I weighted the material, it’s an extra 41 lbs.
it’s a lot but it’s spread over the whole interior not just one area so it shouldn’t make to much of a difference in handling.

My car is used mostly for cruises etc, I only do 2 track days a year so the trade off in weight vs comfort is worth it to me.

Did you notice a significant difference in noise reduction with the 911?

Fair fair, and 40ish pounds is really not too bad, way less than the weight gain the C 63 S E Performance and C192 GT 63 had lol.

Did you take any before/after noise-level readings under relatively controlled conditions? If so, what were the results?

This is impressive and I will do it as well. I am of the same opinion that there is a little too much exhaust noise. Can you indicate the brand and type of insulation material? How long did it take you? Any difficulties in fitting back panels, trim, carpet after the added thickness? Looking forward for your assessment after the first drive.

No I didn’t take any readings, but I am hoping the difference is noticeable enough once I get a chance to drive the car.

Thank you,
I used 42 sheets of siless 120 mil and 45 sheets of Kilmat 80mm
Total install time was about 26 hours but I took my time.
The only issue I had was with the subwoofer enclosure in the trunk, I installed a double layer of material in that area so that made it a tight fit, other than that I had no other issues.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to provide any feedback until the Spring, but I think it will make a huge difference, I can tell from the way the doors close, it’s a nice solid thump now compared to a hollow sound before.

Very neat installation. I hope it meets your expectations.
I could not do that since the interior noise of my 2018 GT R is not objectionable to me. Depends on what you are used to.
I also add lightness by removing the backstop behind the seats, the safety kit and the tire kit. Doesn't amount to much but it makes me feel better.
Now the driver needs to add lightness.

Hi N16. Did you have a chance to drive it and see the difference? I installed sound deadener in the trunk area but I couldn’t feel any noise reduction. True, I didn’t get to do the cabin and the doors.

I used resonixsoundsolutions.com when I was working on my C207, and it made a big difference. The doors and trunk feel more solid, and the road noise dropped a bunch. I followed their install guide, and it was way easier than I expected. If you haven’t touched the inner fenders or rear deck area yet, definitely worth considering those spots too—they helped the most in my case.
