GT Rear Fog Light Location and Wiring Request

Hey all,
Couldn’t find any photos of the rear fog light location on a GT. Need to add it to my car for European regulations. Also if someone has wiring diagram from a European model I’d appreciate it.
i already have fully functional EU taillights except for the fog light.
thanks

Hi,

The European rear fog light is located in the reversing light. (3 connections)
From there, one wire goes to the rear SAM.

You also need the European light switch to operate this fog light. (No wire, controlled via CAN bus)

Then it still needs to be coded.

Regards,

Stenzel

On the wiring diagram the fog lamp is E7e1 with a black (grey on GTR) wire to pin 24 of the SAM connector. It appears to be missing on US harnesses. The fog switch is the normal lamp switch for W204 or W212 PN A212 905 05 51 ($25 on eBay). When I push it the fog lamp turns on in the IC but I am most likely missing the wire to the back-up lamp.
Stenzel can you take a picture of the fog light lit to see if it’s worth cutting rivets inside the bumper with the muffler in the way. Thank you.

Hi,

The EU light has the same dimensions as the US Light.
There are two LED reversing lights on each side. In the middle are four red fog LEDs. (see the picture)
And you need a 3 Pin connector: A0225452426

Best regards
Stenzel

I can understand why cities in Europe built before 1900 allowed parking on the sidewalk therefore the need for low level left/right parking lights. MB religiously equipped all the vehicles with this lighting (see picture) even though it’s illegal in US. However they omitted many times the fog lights, which is a global phenomenon present in US as well, or made its use very convoluted (see W211).
Attached is a picture of the US GT fog lamp, same as Stenzel’s but it looks like I will have to fiddle with the rear SAM. There is communication to IC see amber light symbol.

Light switch from W212 with fog button, IC amber symbol lit, nothing in the back.

Maybe I should try it in Drive not Reverse.

Hi,

According to EU specifications.

You need the following parts:
Light switch: A212 905 05 51
EU Reverse light with rear fog lamp: A218 906 21 00

US Reverse light has the same shape. According to my research, the connector housing should fit. However, pin 2 is missing.

Assignment:
1 = - Common ground, 0.5mm² brown
2 = + Rear fog light, 0.5mm² black
3 = + Reverse light, 0.5mm² violet

1 x Pin: A019 545 25 26 (For light connector)
1 x 0.5mm² black cable (approx. 3m)

The control output for the rear fog light is on connector 5H, pin 24 on the rear SAM (left trunk).

Connect this output to pin 2 of the fog light.

Normally, the cable also runs via an intermediate connector in the underbody. (That's pin 10.) However, I can't reliably find the pin order numbers here. I also can't reliably find the order number for the pin for connector H5. If someone can give me the part number of the connector housing, Maybee I can find the pin.

Regards,

Stenzel

Fun fact: My car have a rear fog light. I've never used it, except to check its functionality.

Thank you Stenzel for the info. I did remove 4 rivets to get access under the heat shield and saw the brown/black/purple wires coming out of the connector. I didn’t pull the connector out so it is possible that the light unit doesn’t have pin 2 for fog even if the harness has the black wire. Your GT R may have different fog/backup lamp considering your rear exhaust is different than my GT, part number A190 906 28 00. Next I will pull the connector out to check if pin 2 is present in the light connector and power black/brown with 12V to verify. Like you mention, if those wires go to an intermediate connection I may need to make sure the black wire gets to pin 24. I didn’t check that on the SAM, I hate the left rear panel clips.

Hi,

The fog light (A218 906 21 00) is the same on the GTR. It's just mounted higher in the rear spoiler base plate.
The GTR's reversing light is very poor; it seems to illuminate a distance of 5 feet. That's why I installed two extra lights. (Picture)

If the black wire is also installed in the US model (which really surprises me), install the light switch and check if 12V is present.

Info:
The light switch is very easy to remove without tools. Turn the rotary switch to the left to the parking light position. Press the rotary switch in and turn it back to the right to the driving light position. (This retracts the retaining clips.)
Then you can simply remove the light switch from the front.

Regards,
Stenzel

Apparently all backup/fog lights in US are missing the middle pin for the black wire. I would have to get one from eBay.de

So it worked on my car with the existing wire/connector. Yes, Stenzel-Germany, I replaced the light switch. Thank you for your help!
