Carbon Ceramics on 2016 GT-S

Just sharing some ongoing build results thus far...and specifically around the brakes, which I found hard to research/confirm.

Anyhow, I had already bought custom wheels, coil overs and other mods...then decided that I really wanted to upgrade to Carbon Ceramic brakes.

I did a lot of research here and via the web on carbon ceramic retrofit / upgrade options for the C190 AMG GT.

Per most of what I found, the consensus seemed to be that the bigger calipers and 402mm front rotors would possibly NOT fit under the stock 19" wheel offsets that came on the the AMG GT-S, with the 390mm steel brakes. It was hard to find definitive, solid info on fitment here and on the web. The local Mercedes dealerships, were little to no help (no surprise).

I can attest that this is not the case. They not only fit under my new 19" wheels but low and behold, they also fit under the stock 19" wheels/offsets too. I was sweatin' it until we test fit and all was good.

I attached a video that shows how close they are on the 19" wheels I had made. Hope this might help someone else. If you have questions, lmk.

Custom Wheel are:
19x9.5 ET50
20x11.5 ET58

TIres:
Michelin PS4S
275/35/19
315/30/20

Lowered on Weistec coil over kit.

Fitment looks close enough to perfect (for what I wanted) and the brake clearance is no problem. Stoked about this upgrade!

PS: More to come,...

Nice!
I’m afraid to ask where you sourced the carbon ceramic brakes and how much they were. Were you able to find them aftermarket somewhere or did you buy them new? That is a great upgrade. I would love to do that just so I won’t have to worry about the stupid brake dust.

cool and effective mod, here in Europe a brand-new OEM CCB costs 19.000 €, front discs only, 8.000 €

I went reconditioned/rebuilt OEM + aftermarket. No way I'm paying the new OEM Mercedes prices....

Sourced the rotors from StopArt -- the company now supplying CCB's to RacingBrake. Amazing rotors for the money.
https://racingbrake.com/about-us/

I'm in FAR less than a brand new OEM setup.

Thanks for the reply
I gotta say they do look really good.
So you’re talking about 14,000 give or take? I guess that’s actually not too bad.

I paid FAR south of that. As in 50% less than that for the entire system INSTALLED. Cut out the ridiculous premium OEM brand markups and/or the greedy additional distributor + retailer hands in the cookie jar, and you can save a lot of $$. The profit margins on European OEM CCB's are outrageous. A few vertically integrated manufacturers, such as Brembo, SGL, etc., dominate the sector, securing 45% of OEM contracts for vehicles priced above $150,000 and although not cheap to make, they keep the margins/pricing very high.

A seemingly well kept secret is that you can get excellent quality CC rotors for far less than European OEM prices. You just have to research/know who's making them and buy from the right company.

I did my homework:

These are made in an ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 facility -- they use T700 grade long fiber construction, 3D-needle-punched pre forming, 2000-2550 C degrees Graphitization, quality Silicon Carbide (SiC) surface coating, LSI infiltration processes (with precise thermal management)...with a high-quality C/SiC (Carbon-Silicon Carbide) composite outcome. They are tested for temperature resistance up to 1400 degrees C and they guarantee no delam under extreme track braking.

The light weight and quality were evident, just pulling them out of the box. As good as OEM, if not better, as many OEM use short fiber construction. With that said, while long fiber is theoretically and mechanically superior, manufacturing processes are equally important. As I said, I did my homework and am blown away by the quality of these rotors for the money. 100% confident in the quality/safety of them. Paying 3-4x more for the same product (from RacingBrake and others), doesn't make them any better.

If you plan to run these on race tracks, you'll want to know how to measure the "wear" ... AKA the level of temperature-induced chemical/strength degradation. Did they specify how you know when they're worn and no longer safe to use?

Of course, if you're not going to be tracking the car, then they'll likely have no trouble lasting the life of the car (assuming they have equal or better specs than the OEM CCB rotors).

This is a street car. No, I'm not tracking it...if I were, I'd be running steel. Yes, you're assuming correctly...
