PorterCable/Meguire/Zainos

Well I finally did it and followed Albostons guide in using a Porter. It did not remove all the swirls marks or scratches, but I would say it is a dramatic improvement. I would have to guess I removed 80% of all the swirls. Pretty Damm good in my book.

Sorry I don't have any before picture, it was to dark to take, but I do have after picture. As for Zainos, good stuff, enuf said.

Now if someone could post in how to maintain this look. It took me at least 8 hours to do, and I don't feel like doing this again for awhile. I figure I would Z wash it and use Z2 or Z5, dry then Z6 for the rest of the year :P

Thx for the instructions AlBos and the forum.

Your car looks INCREDIBLE!!!! Excellent work!!! In order to keep the car looking good, use the proper technique when washing(ie 2 buckets), and drying. Use only quality cotton or Microfiber anytime you dry the paint. Take your time when babying your car. Rushing WILL give you swirls.

With zaino, any minor swirls you may encounter can be covered with spot aplications of z5. You may never need to use an abrasive polish again.

One question. How many times did you have to go over the same area with the same polish and PC pad to remove your swirls? Was one pass enough?

Congrats again!!

WOW!!!!! This makes it all worth it for me. I am so happy that it worked out for you, at least now u know the job was done right and you didnt pay some $5 an hour detailing butcher to do your car. VERY IMPRESSIVE! Well to maintain that look, buy a couple microfiber wash mitts and follow this technique!!!! https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=12843

Did you clay the vehicle too? If you didn't I HIGHLY suggest it. Otherwise great job dude! You are very welcome man .

Good question. Following alboston's instructions I worked a 2x2 or 3x3 area and did many passes over that area. At first I tried to polish the same area until the polish was almost gone, but was unsuccessful. I think I used to much polish. I can't tell you how much wool came out of the new pad I used. I practically had to stop and bust out the california duster to get rid of all the wool particle that flew all of the car. It was a mess. To answer you question, on one application working the 2x2 area, I would guess I went over the area 5 times horizontally across and 5 time vertically across. This removed the most of the swirlmarks but not all of them. I was kind of disappointed. Following up with the swirl remover using the white pad most all the swirls were out but not all of them. After applying the Zainos Z5 the remain swirlmarks were filled in. I was pretty happy then.

If I could reverse time and do this again, I would of spent more time working out the swirls with the dual cleaner.

This makes it worth it for me too!!. The investment alone, I think about $250 for the porters, all the microfiber towels, and Zaino's supply is worth it. It will pay for itself in time.

I didn't clay my car that day, but I did 1 months earlier and I was to lazy to do it again.

And thank you again for sharing your expertise.

The camera is great, it's the person that is handling it. :p I could take good indoor and out door pictures in general, but when it'comes to my car, I can't capture how it really looks in real life

That's really nice!

I was able to get swirl free with a yellow pad and Meguair's #9. This is not very aggressive compared to DACP with a wool pad, so you can tell that my swirls were quite light. The only thing that remained was about two heavier scratches that came from...who knows? I got them out with hand application of Scratch X.

As for the number of passes you use: With the yellow pad you can apply a little more pressure with the PC and by the time you are on your last passes, you can just use the weight of the machine itself. With the wool, you can apply extra pressure as well, but it is kind of disconcerting with the backing plate coming so close to the paint.

As for maintenance, use Z-7 wash and Z-6 after it. Follow the washing technique I posted as well as drying carefully (no wiping, only blotting). That should go the distance! Apply some more Z coasts when you get the time!

How many coats of Zaino did you use? Z-2, Z-5?

I tried applying Zaino by porter cable and finishing pad today. The effort of application is reduced dramatically. You get a thin even coat throughout the surface of the vehicle, and even removal is a little bit easier.

Justin,
When you say finishing pad are you talking about the white pad from the DAP-kit(properautocare)Did you remove by hands?

No. In the DAP-Kit, the wool pad is for leveling (and for putting under cotton bonnets), the yellow is for cutting, the white for polishing, and the black (gray) for finishing. So I used the black one. Then I removed by hand with a microfiber towels. You still may need a small foam applicator to get into the tight spots that the PC cannot.

The biggest advantage of using a PC is the amount of energy it takes to apply three consecutive coats. It is much less.
