BUGS>>>BUGS>>>>N more BUGS>>>>

Anyone have any suggestions from something to put on the hood and grill to protect them when traveling through lotsa bugs at night?

Will spray silicone hurt the paint or will it allow the bugs to be washed off at destination, if you spray a thick coat on before you start driving. Will it wash off and protect the finish from dried bug guts?

Thanks??

If you've got 'lovebugs' in Ft Lauderdale like we've got in Sarasota, this stuff might be worth a try. I haven't seen anything like this in the stores and just came accross it tonight. The link will take you to a product explanation, etc.
Usual discalimer, I have nothing to do with this site or the product, it simply looks to be an interesting approach from a reputable company-

If anyone else has heard of or used this stuff, please comment

I used to detail a few Porsche Track car (go figure) and a few show cars. They all use a spray on product, the Porsche to protect it from burnt rubber etc and the show cars to protect them while being transported to the shows.

“ Spray on Shield, from Dupli-Color, provides temporary spray-on protection for your vehicle where bugs and road grime can do damage. It’s ideal for the front end, rear quarter panel and rocker panels. Spray on Shield as a temporary bra for long road trips, quick mud flaps or as a bug guard. Shield sprays on easily and dries in less than a minute. And best of all, it stays on until you wash it off. You can power wash it off or use soap and water. Rain, snow or moisture in the air won’t affect it. This product leaves no residue on a vehicle’s paint. Give your vehicle the protection that it deserves with Shield.” http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shield.html

TOGWT thanks for that info, learn something new all the time. Additionally some basic steps you can do is apply multiple coats of sealant to protect the paint (esp on the front bumper). Sealants won't stop bug splatter for the most part, but it can help prevent more damage. The sealant helps prevent the bugs from etching in to the clear coat and it makes removal easier. When you get to your destination you may want to spray some quick detailer on the area and then wipe it down. I carry the Poorboy's World Spray and Wipe with me to handle bug splatter, bird droppings, etc. These are not miracle products but certainly help.

The Bug Squash is also a great product to remove bugs, tar, etc. This would be used right before washing and does work great. It helps remove those difficult build ups without having to scrub excessively hard.
