Cleaning Mufflers
Looked all through this forum... but no luck on finding a solution.
My 2003 S55 AMG has 4 pipes... originally chrome... now black... what do you guys recommend I use to bring back the original luster? I tried a screwdriver... not the most brilliant idea kitchen spray cleaners didn't work so well either... nor did Windex.
help!

Well my approach would depend on how bad the pipes are. I think you may need a deep cleaning and polishing so I'm going to suggest you get a metal polish (i.e. P21S Finish Restorer). A good metal polish should help remove some of the contamination, oxidation, etc. I really like the P21S Finish Restorer and use it as my go to metal polish for really bad metal surfaces. If you have any questions about these products or anything else related to detailing please let me know.

Go to your local marine supply store (boater's world, etc) and get a spray can of Woody's Wax and some bronze wool (similar to steel wool but doesn't rust. I hit my exhaust after using this stuff on my boat and the stainless tips looked like new. It also leaves a protective coating on the metal.
I hadn't really cleaned mine properly in a long time, and when I started they were completely black nearly all over.

The Woody's wax in a spray can is a liquid with an oily texture (not cheap at nearly $10, but if you are just using it for occasional cleaning of your car, it should last 10-15+ years). Just spray a small amount on the bronze wool and start scrubbing. I don't remember how much effort it really required, but I don't think that it took more than 5-10 minutes to make all 4 tips look brand new. When you are done, just wipe them off with a microfiber towel and you should be ready to go. I have not repeated the procedure yet, but the tips seemed to stay cleaner much longer and not hold the soot so much.
The same procedure worked very well to clean the stubborn debris on the wheels, but I would thoroughly wash all of the woody's wax off when done, as it seemed to attract the brake dust when I left it on.

Thanks for the respone.
I can't stand having my tips built up with all of the black sut.
I have tried what many people have suggested but nothing seems to work that well...i.e simple green etc.
I'm gona try your method.

Use Wenol Polish
I use Wenol Polish. It works wonders and its pretty easy to apply and buff out. If it requires deep cleaning, start with the red tube but I only use the
blue.
