hey, i would go over to the detailing forum, but there is going to be muchmore than zaino,. like towels, pads, mitts, and buckets, you will also need other products. from zaino, it depends what color of the car you have, you can get z-2, or z-5, then get zfx, z-6, z-7. thats all you need. from autozone get blue magic clay bar, but dont use the lube that comes with it. you need to get 100% cotton mitts from walmart, or autozone, then towels you can get from www.microfibertech.com get 10 elite, and one waffle weave. you will also need dawn. you need to learn a lot in two weeks, like dont let you dealer prep the paint, and how to use zaino, ill help you later, i dont have time right now

Check out the thread "Zaino" by Rock. It is recent and has a great description of how to do the whole thing. Many other threads here also but Rocks's description gives a great overview of how and what to use. He left out the Z5 step probably because he didn't feel he needed it.

I didn't have products, but did a bit of research. Most of the stuff is listed below. Also purchased buckets, storage compartments, etc. I use most everything I bought, but I could have done with one less detail brush, and I've got a lot of microfiber mitts. The cotton Chenille mitts are for the wheels and for tire dressing. I've never used the California Duster yet. Also, I'm iffy about the Viper MF. In addition to what's listed, I've also bought a half-dozen of the "Little Blue" towels from CMA.

Wow, that's almost 1K just for cleaning products! Looks like I'll be spending a tad more than usual for cleaning products but I'm sure it is worth it. Thanks so much!

Geez....it looks like Chris is going into the detailing business

I just got the microfibre mitts (2), towells (10), waffle weave drying towell (1) and the Zaino products.

I think it is a very good idea to get the right stuff to work with so you do cause the scratches and swirls yourself.

I truly hate to wash or do any detailing and have always had someone else do it, but now find that because I do not have scratches or swirls I don't trust a detailer to do my car. Once they have screwed it up (and denied it) it is almost impossible to get it right.

Etenn, had I known of a good ****-retentive detailer in Houston, I would have skipped buying all that and just paid to have it done. I've done that in the past, but always wound up with swirls.

I read so much stuff about using multiple mitts and MF towels and what not that I bought a lot of them. Still not enough to run through the washer, and I don't always get around to washing them in the sink during the week, so it's nice to have enough to cover a couple of washings. I do wash the cotton towels from lazaino and the Chenille mitts in the washer with other towels (I get the mitts fairly clean with the car wash solution and hose first.)

It's been interesting learning about all this, plus it's pretty good exercise. Don't know how long I'll keep it up, but the car sure looks perfect each time I detail it.

Chris:
I must be the most reluctant "washer and Zainoer" in existance. But I have no scratches (except for a damn cat) and NO swirls on my Obsidian Back car. It has to be for following the advice on this forum and using the right equipment because it sure is not my skill or dedication to the program.
