•Rinse wheel well thoroughly with water.
•Use a 1:1 solution of P21 Total Auto Wash a d-limonene (citrus) based cleaner and water in a spray bottle, spray the wheel wells and let the solution dwell for 3-5 min
•Agitate and brush the road dirt / grime the wheel well and suspension parts, brake callipers, etc
•Spray the area thoroughly with a high pressure water spray
•Remove any road asphalt with a safe solvent (Stoners Tarminator)
•Repeat if necessary

I would start off with washing, degreaser and clay bar. Unfortunately lots of stubborn tar will often not come off with these steps. Therefore I go to the Stoner Tarminator, which my hands down product of choice. Just spray it on and it will dissolve away the tar, agitate lightly with a soft mitt or sponge as needed. When you are done rinse the area and then wash it as well.

( I hope Greg won't mind) Tarminator is considered a 'safe' solvent

From my experiences it's very safe. I just like to carefully rinse it off and avoid getting it on my good wash mitts when possible.

Lestoil! $3 a bottle.

Used it as a kid at the Jersey shore to remove tar ***** from our feet, that would wash up on the beach. No more tar ***** since Gov. Florio.

I try to provide data that allows operators full knowledge of ‘what’ they're doing and ‘how’ to do it and ‘why’ things work to enable detailer’s to operate these various methodologies / tools to a higher level.

I have always tried to find out not just “How it works, but also “Why” it works. With that in mind I probably respond with more detail than some think is necessary. But try to write in a way that helps the reader to understand not only "How" to do something, but "Why" they are doing it.

TOGWT,

As far as I'm concerned you can write with as much detail as you like. I have learnt so much for your posts on other forums. And the "why" really helps me with the "how".
