When a small part of paint becomes "discolored" from the rest....i.e a lighter shade.

I'm in desperate need of help with this.

I had my door re-painted when I bought my car (proffesionally done by M-B Dealer, etc.) due to a scratch.

I just realized, at the very bottom corner of the door (where the edge/point is), there a small circular part that just looks like it's lost its "tan" per-se, i.e it's just a shade lighter than the rest of the door. It's fairly unnoticable as it's pretty small, but I have no idea if its always been like that, or if it's something that's new and if it could spread. Also to note, it feels completely smooth and coherent with the rest of the paint, if you rub around it you'd never tell there's anything different based off of feel.

I'd take a pic but don't have my camera with me. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or do I just have to post a pic when I can?

Thanks.

Here are two pics. The lighting isn't that great, (don't pay attention to the black streak on the top one either, I dunno how that showed up in the pic). The discoloration in question is a little circular area right at the bottom point of the drivers door....

Well it`s definitely there and it is noticeable.

How long ago was it done?

I would be going back to the repairer and ask for an explanation.

Yeah, it's driving me nuts. The paint job was done about 8 months ago. I usually know everything that's going on with the car as I clean and wax it regularly myself, etc. But I never noticed it before. Any chance it could have all of a sudden became like that? Maan, I hope not, that would mean that it could spread.

I have no idea what can even cause it. I'll probably have to set an Appt. with the Dealer now.

Also, to re-iterate, it is completely smooth and has a clear coat over it, feels just like the rest of the door.

It almost looks like the clear coat separated from the base paint.

Hmm. If you don't mind could you elaborate on that a bit? Sorry, I'm dumb when it comes to some of these things.

Is that something that can happen all of a sudden? Or would it have had to have happened during the actual painting process?

Thanks again for the Responses.

Improper adhesion between two different paint products. Could be in the prep prior to clear coating. Just shooting from the hip. Best bet would be a pro to look at it.

Yeah, gonna make an appointment with them. Thanks. Any other possible inputs would be appreciated as well, as you always gotta come knowledgeably armed when dealing with these guys.

Yep, looks like your clear coat is pealing. The same thing happened to my bumper along the edges of the paint job after idiots painted it. If you don't get it repainted the best thing to do would be to apply some clear coat touchup paint along the edge so that it does not continue chipping away from water and debris getting between the layers.

Arghh!! That's such BS. I can't believe I have to re-paint the door again.

Do you know if they can just sand/respray and blend that little area? I'd hate to have to have the door painted again. All this is making me want to just sell the car it's so upsetting.

Thanks for your Response though.

Hey if it really bothers you that much, I can get it done for you, just pay for the cost of paint.

Thank you for the offer man!! That's really nice, I will definitely let you know if anything else paint-wise comes up if you're willing to work on it, etc.

The Paint Shop took care of it very professionally and nicely, I took it in, they kept it for just one day, paid for a Rental Car, etc. So I'm not complaining. I just hope it doesn't happen again....
