Need your expert advice on Detailer's Products

So I don't want to do the first Polish on my car. I'd rather have a pro do it with a buffer and then I'll maintain it.

I stopped by the local Hand Wash/Detailer and talked to the guy.

They use Meguiar's Ultra Cut 105 once or twice, depending on what you pay for. Then they use Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow Wax 26.

Any thoughts on these products? They charge 125 for the single polish and wax and 145 for the dual polish and wax. Each service also includes plastic areas conditioned, door and trunk jams cleanes and tires/wheel/wheel wells cleaned and dressed.

Again, any thoughts on these products? Are these prices fair?

Thanks guys for your assistance. I just want to do it right.

I should add, they do a clay bar prior to the above, which follows their hand wash.

Also, for an extra $20, I can get something they call Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow Carnauba Wax. I can't find anything like that on the Meguiar's website, so not sure what it is.

For a bit more you can just buy all the stuff and do it yourself. If you use a porter cable its extremely hard to screw up the paint and is very easy to do. Go on youtube and search for junkman. Then go to adamspolishes.com

I'm just worried about FUBARing it with a buffer since I don't have any experience. Only good thing is I can practice on my old Dodge pickup which is also black.

What do you guys think about the products they use? Too aggressive of a polishing product? What about that wax?

M105 is fine, its needed for your car because of the harder paint.

My question though would be what kind of polisher are they using? If using a rotary, DO NOT GO THERE. They made no mention of a finer polish to step down properly. YOU CANT FINISH WITH 105, its a compound! You have to follow that up with at least one other polish like M205 or menzerna 203. My normal routine is 105 - 203- 85rd (3 step)

the wax will not last long, maybe 6 weeks at most! You need a sealant like M21 or M20, or blackfire wet diamond!

I would not go there if I were you...you can find someone local I am sure and spend a couple more bucks and have it done right!

+1

You really cannot go wrong with any Meguiar's product. Are there some better products out there than then M-line, yes, but they will also do the job on your car.

As for the prices: $145 for a proper two step polish is too cheap, if done right.

I'm all about doing it yourself, i've used meguiars for about 10 years in my mobile detailing business, great stuff, if they clay your car then that will remove the failout, no need for compound unless you have "deep" swirls, if i was you i would buy an orbital buffer/polisher, not a highspeed polisher, use micro fiber pads, meguiars swirl remover, show car glaze, then finish with tech 2.0 wax, last a long long time, and great shine gl
