Sonax wheel cleaner... the best?
I tried leaving it on my wheels for several minutes, then agitated with a wheel brush. I still have a few small brake dust spots in the corners of the spokes. Was hoping to here if there is a better option, or tips. Thanks.

also did you use a pressure washer, did you have a strong stream of water out of your hose?

I admit the trouble spots have been on the wheels for over a year. Nothing I ever did could make it come off.
I don't own a pressure washer, but I did have a strong stream from the hose I use.
The trouble spots were slightly worse before the Sonax.

I have had the same problem on cast aluminum wheels.
You can't let that hot dust sit on them or it eats into the outer protective wheel surface and stains the aluminum.
Some wheels are prone to corrosion because of how they are made.
The front wheels get it the worst.
Most of those wheel cleaners probably work well on any non porous, undamaged surface, or smooth surface.
Wheels that are polished or chrome plated.
But so will any other household surface cleaner.
But for the damage I am refering to none of those products in a bottle will work no matter how you apply them.

Sounds more like corrosion than a cleaning problem.

Sonax is the best esp. For what he said above.
Otherwise,
Green Turtle Wax Wheel cleaner better than Meguiars, girots, P21 at much lower price and is sold everywhere.
Use the foaming brush and low pressure water at CW.
Above assumes wheels are regularly washed and not compromised.
Take the wheels off the car and wash the inside too.
