Parking Outside

Folks,

My new work place doesn't have any indoor parking requiring me to park my CLK430 outside in the sun. Now granted I live in Seattle, where it's sunny only 2-3 months of the year :-) but I'm curious how hard is the sunlight on the paint? Should I be concerned?

Also there are some sections of the outside parking lot that are shady (overhanging trees). If I park there I risk tree crap and / or bird droppings.

What's worse? bright sun (it only gets up to 90 degrees 3 or 4 days a year) or tree crap.

Advice appreciated.

thanks.

Tree/bird crap can be worse IMHO. Sun fading is gradual and somewhat even compared to a prominently placed bird gift. A good car cover can prevent damage from both.

i have this same problem when i'm at school in ann arbor. i tend to park the car in areas where there are no trees and a building providing a shaded area. i sometimes park in a public garage, $0.90 an hour, and walk quite some distance to class/work.

I would definitely regularly wax/poly seal my car especially in a high rain environment. There are a few waxes that have UV protection in them and waxing will help protect your clear coat (which has several UV blockers in the upper layers of the clear).

new-C320, you should come to our boston meet next weekend. Check events/gathering forum. When u see my new C320 you will not be too happy about paying upwards of 500 dollars for that snake oil simonize coating.

is that simonize 5 system bad?? You refer to it as snake oil....being in the medical profession I know that snake oil is a sham. I didn't pay for the simonize thing...the dealer gave it to me for a mess up with my interior color.
Was he full of hot air?? Maybe he didn't even do anything??
Supposedly I don't have to wax the car for 5 years...just wash. And if the shine goes away, they will redo it for me....covered for 5 years. Sounds good...but then again, some things are too good to be true.
So far I've washed my car only once.....and it was still pretty shiney!

yup I think the simonize is crap. Nothing special, the dealer did it for free on my lexus (without my permission). It was fairly durable but I stripped it off within the first week.

if u like letting them do that, sure! I get tons of free offers from dealerships to buff my car and such, lemme know u can have my free offers cuz I would never let one of those people touch my paint.

I agree with AlBoston. Just ask oggle. He'll tell you how the lame a$$ Penske dealer butchered his black car's paint during a complimentary car wash. Those wash monkeys use really dirty rags and push their whole body onto your paint when they wash. Afterwards all I saw were swirls and swirls.

I agree, too. When I saw my dealership washing cars with those big brooms, and then laying them on the ground, I said 'no thank you' to the free car scratching. I get a big 'NO WASH' written on my windsheild whenever I go now...
