Chrome Cleaner

All,

Anyone know of any non-abrassive chrome cleaner? Here is a pic of my car / wheels. They have a 2 inch lip, which is chrome and I started to notice fine hairline marks in the chrome. HELP!!

hairline marks in the chrome? Sounds like a poor chrome plating, No metal cleaner can fix that.... please post some pics so I can be sure of it.

Not major ones, they almost look like swirls, lite swirls. I know there is a filler or thought I heard of a filler. In any case, I will get some close ups soon..

Mother's and most all other claimed "non-abrasive" chrome polishes are at least a little abrasive. For the most part, the abrasive material is what removes surface oxidation and gunk. However, this doesn't mean they are harsh on metal.

I've used Mother's and it is pretty good for the money but I started using something my Harley riding friends use. This stuff requires some elbow grease (OK a lot) but the results are very good and it is as non-abrasive as the others.

If you have scratches in your chrome, you might try an abrasive compound like Simichrome polish.

AlBoston,

Here is a closeup. If you look close, you can see these fine scratches.

ah yes, this is due to your wash technique. Those are probably clearcoated polished lips that have been scratched from using a poor wash mitt/dirty wash mitt or just poor technique. You must be careful with those wheels. Try something like mothers clearcoat wheel polish or a swirl mark remover like 3M SMR.

Still wiating for the Hawg Wash, and the 3m. As soon as I get them, I am going to do one wheel with each and then compare. I will let you know my findings after it is done. Hopefully this weekend! I can't take it anymore!
