Nav screen spots

My car came with spots on the navigation screen and on the instrument cluster. Someone must have goobed it up while detailing the car.

Being a photographer I used a lens pen on both as it's good with anti-reflective coatings. It did a really nice job on the instrument glass but didn't do a thing for the nav.

Has anyone had luck with anything such as invisiglass or an LCD cleaning kit?

I'm worried the AR coating may have been eroded off but they just look like splatter spots.

I tried LCD cleaning solution and it made no change. I'm thinking those splatters are permanent or may have removed the AR coating. Someone may have armor alled it or splattered it with coke.

I may investigate using an AR screen protector and see if it can mask the issue.

I found an aftermarket replacement. You remove the factory coating and then apply a special film that acts as a screen protector and enhances readability.

How did you remove the factory coating and where did you get the new film?

I haven't done it yet but the company is called nushield. They said the factory coating can be removed with ammoniated window cleaner.

I'm going to go for it. I'm just a little worried about installation being hard. My Comand screen is recessed into the dash a bit.

I removed the factory coating today. For as easily damaged as that stuff is it sure was hard getting off. Not hard so much as time consuming. It requires a vigorous rubbing but light pressure to remove the coating. I had to be especially patient around the corners. I used q-tips for them.

Much to my surprise the screen looks beautiful after removing the factory AR coating. There is some nice glass on these things. I've only seen it at night so far. Tomorrow I'll get to see how bad the glare is in the sunlight.

I didn't rush putting the new film on since I was tired from removing the factory AR coating. It probably took over an hour to get it clean. Plus I want to see how it looks without AR coating in the daytime.

Just an update on daylight visibility. So far it hasn't had any major issues with glare. I think it's partly because of the recessed screen in my 2013 C-Class. The older pop up ones or the newer iPad style ones might have an issue.

So if I don't like the aftermarket film I could live with this. I have a little more cleanup to do and then I'll put the film on this weekend. I'll also post some before and after photos.
