Can't I use wax on wheels?

So I am getting really pissed off with brake dust. It gets all over the wheel 2-3 days after I wash and wax the car. Now my question is can't I just clean down the wheel and then wax it so brake dush won't stick to it!?!?!

I know there are products for this, but wouldn't wax work just as well since its a coat?

I use Meguiars NXT Tech Wax and it works fine. That Wheel Wax crap from TireRack doesnt seem to work too well.

I put a coat of wax on the wheels every now and then. Even if you wax your wheels the brake dust will still get on them.

I know, but maybe it will reduce the time it gets all black so I don't have to wash my car every weekend. LOL!

Negative.. The brake dust comes off easier though if you wipe it down dry with a terry cloth and the wheel feels very smooth.

I use NXT and find that it makes it easier to wash the dust off and keep it from embedding. I wax the wheels every few weeks with the NXT booster at the same time that I do the car. I haven't tried to do a comparison so I don't know if it does any good at keeping the dust off.

Normal wax will work on the wheels fine. Just be sure to remember that a carnuaba may wear off sooner then a sealent due to the high heat and exposure to the elements that a wheel faces.

~One mans opinion / observations~

TCM is correct Carnauba wax will not last as long as a polymer.

FWIW: ‘Wheel Wax’ (the brand) is not actually a wax but a polymer.

~Hope this helps~
