Woman in Exterra put 5 gal Diesel in her SUV :wall:
Just yesterday I was tanking up at a brand new Chevron that had diesel for $2.59/gal (good price.)
Next to me was a brand new (or almost) Nissan Exterra where the woman looked a bit disturbed.
Moments later, the manager of the station was out talking to her, and I could over hear while I was pumping my diesel that she apparently put 5 gal of diesel in her Gas car..
The manager told her to just top off with super and go on..
I WARNED her not to. I said that the diesel will drive down the Octane to well below what the engine can run on, and that the entire fuel system will need servicing if she drive's it. I said, tow it off to the dealer and have the diesel pumped out!
Did I caution her too much?
I hated to see her get into more trouble by driving it off!

In college I had a 1979 Delta 88 gasser I put diesel in
ON PURPOSE!
I bought this beast for $125.
I would put in about 5 gallons diesel and top with 15 gallons gas. That sonofa***** smoked like a coal train. I thought it was funny as schitt to show up at a party, etc with a stank trail of exhaust.
The car looked like those smoking airplanes in shows.
Knocked a bit, but the compression of that car was about 8.0:1 so it ran decent.
Drove the wheels off that car, I'm talking fire trails, road trips, etc. Couldn't kill it. Sold it for $350 after a year and a half of abuse. I saw it 4 years ago, apparently its still on the road.

Reminds me when a friend of mine bought a new Civic (this was back in 2003) and well on the 2nd month of ownership she accidently filled half the tank full of diesel. She would have topped it off, but her dad noticed she was filling it with diesel and stopped her. Well needless to say it ran like crap until she had the diesel drained out of it later that day, and even then it was still running bad. To make a long story short she ended up taking it Honda a week later and said it hesitating while accelerating. Honda said the fuel pump was faulty and replaced it under warranty (fixed the problem, the car was running fine afterwards). Good thing they didn't discover what really caused the fuel pump to fail.
