Exclamation Oil

I was wondering what is the absolute best oil I could put into a diese-Benz? More specifically, a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo. I know that the oil will be synthetic. Mobil 1? Amsoil?

Unless synthetic has been used since new, I don't see the need for it. The benefits will not be there on an engine thats had some hours on it. Rotella (non-synthetic) or Delo will work fine.

Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 is the best diesel oil period. Well you could probably make a good argument for that 5w-40 Amsoil as well. But you can't get 5 quart jugs of Amsoil for $20 now can you?

Shell Rotella Synthetic is a group three, only slightly better then running straight dino. Mobil 1 and Amsoil are group 4's. (well most Mobil 1 is, the stuff MB's use anyway.)

Where to buy the Delvac?

Truck stops?

Wally world and the local auto parts stores don't have it.

They don't call it Delvac 1 anymore. It's now called Mobil 1 Truck & SUV SAE 5W-40. There has been some discussion about it not being available for now. According to a post I saw, (DON'T TAKE THIS AS FACT, BUT RATHER AS HEARSAY) it is being relabled Mobil 1 Turbodiesel oil, same weight and everything, and will be available later this month, or later this year depending on where you are.

Interesting, no love for the Lube Molly products? They make a 5W-40 Diesel specific oil. Maybe their stuff isn't sold everywhere...

I've heard Lubro Moly oil is good, but like you said before, it's pretty hard to find. I think the only way I could get it is via mail.

Well, looks like I was right. The Mobil 1 SAE 5W-40 motor oil has been relabled Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck oil. Mobil 1 SAE 5W-30 motor oil is now called Truck & SUV oil. So now, you want to use the Turbo Diesel Truck oil.

That's correct. Though I don't think it'll be in stores until April. I couldn't find it today.
