Did My Own Oil Change - 2005 E320 CDI
The only thing I lack right now is information about resetting the computer to show the engine oil has been changed. Could anyone point me in the right direction? thanks.
Except for my Volvo I/O (boat) I have always changed engine oil on Mercedes as well as American vehicles, by draining down; enjoyed the cleanup afterwards. Was never a believer in the Suction change type despite witnessing aggressive debates between MB owners on boards elsewhere.
I believe the 'tilt forward' procedure only applies to the E300D. Never had an issue owning and servicing a 240D, thence an 87 SDL over the past 40 years; 200Kmi and 277Kmi, respectively.
The Volvo I/O stint cautioned me: it is imperative to the suction routine that the engine oil be real hot; suction is smoother.
On my first change on the CDI I used 7 quarts on the driveway which is slightly downhill to the back. I drove it and parked it on the level road and 30 minutes later the computer told me it was 1 quart low. I put in the full 8 quarts.
I sucked as much as I could out and then waited about 5 minutes and sucked out a little more. I did this 3 or 4 times until I would hear the sucking sound of air only coming through the tube after priming the pump.
What's your point???? The new oil I use does just fine. I'm not sure what their refining and blending processes are and don't really care as long as the oil I buy meets the specification I need and is what it is advertised to be.
