Best Diesel Wagon
I have had several MB Diesels over the years and really love my 1995 E300. I'd like to pick up a wagon. What years do you recommend? Are any of the newer models OK. MB's quality was slipping there for a while.

In the USA your only diesel wagon choices are the 79-80 300TD W123 non-turbo, 81-85 300TD W123 turbo, and 1987 300TD W124.
There were no more diesel wagons imported to the USA after 1987.

Best diesel wagon
If you can find one, probably the best diesel wagon will be a 1984 turbo. The non-turbos are power challenged and by '84 the 3 litre turbo-diesel had been developed about as far as it would be - the '85's had more pollution crap on it - just about the same as the California version. You can take an '84, tint the windows (saves you and the interior) and later model 15 inch alloys and it's a gorgeous car.
