SSW
SF Tiger,

I am a tdi club reader too. The members have a lot of neat repair instructions, sometimes in great detail. This board is less technical in comparison. I like the frugality of the diesel engine but think saving the planet is second to having fun blowing black sooty smoke. I fired an air rifle once after oiling the barrel (silly thing to do) and saw and heard the real dieseling in action. My ears were ringing for 15 minutes.

Diesel on folks!

What makes you think I would lie about it?

Diesel engines emit less carbon dioxide then gas engines. I think what the Peoples Republic of Californication wants is to dictate to the world what is good and what is not for it. MB sells some 60%+ of its cars in the USA there and the USA is the biggest MB buyer in the world so it is a case of the tail wagging the dog. The Europeans and Asias have to drive what the tree-huggers in LA think they should. One exception - when I was in China in the 1980s the Chinese were fueling their imports equipped with full emission gears with leaded fuels. To hell with the check engine lights, they drive on with the choked catalytic converters while NA debates about the imaginary Ozo Layer, the Italian sex maniac.

It wasn't the pump. It needed a couple of fuel lines/o-rings replaced and thats all. Dealer said it was happening on a few CDI's but no word from MB on any service bulletin. Thinks its from switch to ULSD.

Congratulations! You're just a little under halfway to your first high mileage badge.

Some mechanic told me that the more frequently you drive your car the better it performs. The gaskets seal better with continuous expansion-contraction cycles and moving parts get oiled.

Take a photo of that MB million mile badge.

I am liking these reliability reports... I've only got 17K on my 2005.. but it's been 100% trouble free for almost 2 years now.. time is as much a killer as miles..

Looking forward to hearing about the 100,000 mile mark!
