Advice on value of 1973 220D
I've owned her since she was new and it's difficult to part with her. She runs like a top. I uploaded her picture but not sure if upload was successful. Anyway, I'm now retired and widowed and want her to go to a MB enthusiast. She has 850K miles. We replaced the engine once in 1975 when we took on a load of bad diesel. Any ideas anyone on what I should sell her for?

Call Mercedes and see if they'd want to use it for publicity. Otherwise, it's not worth much at all. Keep driving it.

Sounds like the perfect car for someone's newly licensed 16 year old. Exactly what I plan to get for my kids when they get old enough...
Hard to get in trouble in one of those...

My avatar is a picture of my 1973 220D. We bought via European Delivery and picked her up at the factory in Sindelfingen in Oct 1973. She's always been ours. She is a 4D sedan and has given us 25-28mpg since the day we drove her away from the factory. We used to drive her 25-30K miles a year, but nowadays, she pretty much stays in the garage.
Her color is Tobacco Brown with a lasting finish only MB can give an automobile. It's astonishing the lustre to her paint job that still remains. She needs front seat covers, but the rest of her upholstery is fine...The idea someone mentioned about how safe an auto it is for a 16yr old new driver has given me the notion to give her to my grandson who is that age. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Nice as far as you went, but I wanted more information as well as detailed pictures
that I could see, such as front, back and sides as well as the interior.
Details such as the type of transmission would have helped also.
I owned a new four speed manual 220D back in '72 that was also Tobacco Brown with the very popular
Cognac interior and we really loved it, but I had to sell it after only 27 months and 65,000 trouble
free miles to get additional funds help with the purchase of our new home on the Island in
Westlake Village California, a much better investment by the way.
Sounds like you have made a wise decision for both of us, as it would have meant trouble for me probably.
It will be a good experience for your grandson if he has the interest
and abilities to give it the tender loving care that it will require.
At seventy years young, my only grandson is but five years old now,
as my daughter was almost thirty eight when he was born.
Thanks for the chance to reminisce.

I'd be glad to post some more pictures as soon as some of our snow has melted and I can get her out onto the drive.
She is an automatic transmission (yea, I know, most are sticks, but it has never been a problem.) I cannot remember what Mbz called the color of her upholstery. It's a beige color. An amazing fabric to have lasted so remarkably for 33 years. Thanks for the interest...more later.
PS: Regarding reminiscing, I remember going down the autobahn when she was brand new, wide open at abt 70mph, with VWs passing us like we were standing still! We always called her our "German taxicab" since so many cabs in Deutchland looked just like her. But when we got her home to the states, she really stood out!

I've taken some snapshots of my 220D, but am unsure how to post them. I do not have a website from which to launch them. I would be glad to email them to those interested.

I recently bought one with 23k miles for $4,500. I found an online auction between $11k-$23K, Facebook in my area has from $3,500-$11k. I hope these numbers help you. I wish I could buy her from you, but I have one of her cousins already.
