06 E320 CDI-Gas tank sloshing noise

I have had this car for a couple of months and there is a significant sloshing sound heard in the cabin from the diesel tank. When I come to a stop, there is a loud thumping sound in the cabin from the diesel fuel...particularly on a full tank. I took it to the dealer, they were unaware of that issue and how to correct it. They called Mercedes tech support. According to Mercedes, that sloshing is normal in the diesels. ..I was told the diesel has a different baffle system than a gas model. Anyone else have that issue with their CDI? If it is in fact normal, I am surprised that it never has been mentioned as an annoyance. Thanks for your input...

Two things strike me about your complaint...
1) if the tank was full, how is there room to slosh?
2) how does a sloshing liquid really make a 'thump' sound?

I somewhat suspect a culprit other than the diesel in the tank. Maybe the tank is loose? Maybe it isn't the tank (or contents) at all - something entirely different?

I have never heard or felt fuel moving around the tank in my diesel car nor in my truck for that matter. I tend to think like Talbot and would be checking for a loose tank. Ed B

Thanks for your responses. The dealer checked it all out...even going to the point of taking out the spare and tightening the exhaust, etc. They also heard it in a test drive. When they told me Mercedes said it was normal, that is when I thought I should do more checking around. I have yet to find someone that also hears it. I think I will need to press them further.

Noise in Tank

It is probably a broken baffle inside the tank. This requires a tank replacement.
The 2003 -2004 SL's had a problem with this. I am not aware if this is a problem with your E series.

I don't think it is normal in mine. The noise is only from the passenger side of the tank area.
