2006 Boxster

Buying E320 and Registering in CA

Can anyone please tell me if this is an easy process? I live in California. Can I buy a diesel (used) and bring it back and register it without any problems?

Anyone know?

Only if it has had at least 1 previous owner and has at least 7500miles on the odometer.

CDI E-Class - not in CA

You need more info. Any DMV can advise, where to look reliably! I don't think the E-Class CDI is on the CA MB "menu"..../being certified for CA.

I saw one today (in AZ). My neighbor just bought his 3rd ML, this time a CDI (he loves Mercedes, so his words). Looks like there is interest for the Diesel.

That is correct, I know someone whose mother bought a VW Jetta Tdi, that way out of state, and took it to California. It does need to have in excess of 7500 miles on it to bring it in and register it.

Ask about a one trip permit if you are driving it in, to avoid registering it out of state and then immediately registering again in California. Mostly the one trip permits are about $1-$20 depending on the state that issues them.

I think you need to apply to register it in California in about 10 days after you bring it in. You will need to have it inspected by the Ca. DMV and VIN verified. It is not a complicated process. Tax might be owed on the purchase price, worth checking.

Yes, it is an easy process. The car must have been previously titled and have at least 7500 miles at the time of purchase. The DMV will inspect the car upon registration to make sure it has sufficient miles.

Yup, easy! I bought my 2005 E320 CDI from Florida. Qualified with over 7500 miles and registered it earlier this year in Santa Clara, CA. No problems, very easy.

BTW, no problem finding ULSD at gas stations in CA. I'd say about 2/3 of the gas stations have diesel pumps.
