Sad to hear that, but I heard in the W221 forum, in response to the same question, that a diesel W221 would arrive at the end of this year as a 2009 model? Of course, part of the equation is that I want the diesel S to be available.

Basically, I will be buying a car very soon, and I want a diesel. I would prefer an S, but will buy the E if it is my only choice. SUV's are not a consideration for me.

I don't think the USA will see the V8 diesel.

It's really big bucks to certify a drivetrain and it's doubtful the cost could be recovered.

Mercedes wants diesels in the USA to be seen as "economical" and the V8 diesel isn't particularly so.

In europe diesel is cheaper than gasoline, but that isn't necessarily the case here.

BMW is so afraid of diesels in the USA it's only going to offer them in 3 series and SUVs.

It's clear USA marketers at both BMW and Mercedes don't think Americans can equate diesel and luxury.

I'm concerned this will be a problem for the C-class if the 4-cyl diesel is offered as it will have to compete with the BMW 6 in the 3 series.

According to a friend with MBUSA PR dept, they are only going to offer the E, ML, R, and GL. MB is hoping to bring the Bluetec version of the later 3 in this year.

Personally I will not buy any of the urea injection cars. Too complicated and if the government has its ways (almost always) there are going to be extra sensors and things to force owners to return to MB for topping up of the AdBlue solutions and reset the computers, meaning extra expenses for the consumer. I read the big brothers want MB to cut the power output 50% when the urea runs out. How do you fancy that on the highway?

Honda engines sound more encouraging with the ability to do without urea injection, at least with their smaller displacement engines. I am going to trade in my 2.4 liter gas engine for a diesel when it comes out.

This is one of the reasons I rushed to locate a dealer last year to order a Bluetec following the end of the ordering season. It took me weeks to find one but then I am glad I did; I really did not want to risk being bothered with a urea canister etc.

I think a 2006 CDi common rail engine coupled with the latest 7-G transmission would be perfection!
