Goatman: have you ever tried burning heating oil? I had not done so but had used cheapo no brand name automatic transmission fluid (ATF) in my sold 1999 VW Jetta TDi, generation 3, I think. This was advised by a MB dealership diesel mechanic who swore by it. He suggested a liter of ATF into the gas (diesel) tank every now and then to "lube the interior of the engine".

I think it may have helped a little bit in terms of noise reduction but I would not try it with my CDi. There is a big price difference in repairs should the engine seized up. As ATF is red the excise tax inspectors may ticket you too.

A buddy of mine used to burn it in his Chevy diesel all the time. Probably wasn't the best for the environment, but he did get combustion.

Filled up the SDL today for $2.36 full serve. A buddy of mine said he found a place that's $2.31.

That was ill advised by an ignorant MB dealership diesel mechanic who should not be allowed to work on engines.

ATF is very bad for an engine. First, its not a fuel. Second, it has additives specifically to PREVENT it from burning. Third, its not lubricating anything since fuel and engine oil are already lubricating everything.

Other spots it was as high as $2.97..

Mind you this is coming from a guy who claims air-to-air intercoolers make more power than liquid-to-airs and whose car makes less HP than my wifes' bone stock Hyundai, with worse MPG to boot...

LOL

You, are a liar. I never said one makes more power than the other, I said air-air is better than air-water.

Who cares and how does this even remotely relate to the topic being discussed? At least I'm not driving a Korean made pile of crap.

Still $1.81 for regular here and $2.41 for diesel. Although it still varies quite a bit for diesel prices. Just the next town over is significantly more while gas is about the same....

Still lower diesel prices

Well, I went to get a top up this AM and the price at my local Sunoco is holding at 76.5 cents/L for their Gold Diesel, while a litre of regular gasoline is going for 86.5 cents/L. Converting the currency, it works out to $2.27 USD per US gallon here in Southwestern Ontario. Which is fantastic, as we always pay a lot more tax than our brothers to the south...

$2,45 for Premium and $1,89 for Diesel. These prices seem appropriate, although diesel prices vary so widely, this is market inefficiency due to lower demand and lack of information in the market, these are also causing the inelasticity.

Just filled up with plain diesel at Sunoco Highway 7 and Yonge @ 79.9 cents per liter. (Regular 84 cents) so it is cheaper than regular at the moment.

Petro Can often price gouges on diesel and the differential is big, up to 10 cents a liter.

The OP's question was "why" diesel costs more....not "how" much it costs.

You've posted on this thread 15 times. Once was on topic and half of the off topic posts included trolling.

Mister Goat, please refrain from inflaming the Diesel crowd. They have enough problems as it is.
