How good are they? How reliable are they? Are they cheap to maintain? Do they require same maintenance as other E class? How many KM/tank do you get? Are they worth it?
Hope some of you guys out there can help out. what is a good price for this year?
Thanks.

They are not cheap to maintain and they require more maintenance than gas models.
If you get one, it will be the best car you've ever owned.

2006 E320 CDi, 2008 3/4 Ton Suburban, 2007 "rice rickshaw" Accord 5 speed
The engine in the E class is the last of the straight 6 diesels sold in North America. They were sold only in the E series, 2005 & 2006. None were sold in 4 Matic.
Engines from 2007 and up are all V-6 with multiple "filters". Used in the E, R, ML and GL classes.
Engines from 2008 and newer are like the above adding urea injection. No spar e tires in these cars - space used to house urea tanks. These engines will lose power and eventually stop running if the urea levels are low. Avoid these engines.

Big differences between the two "CDi" engines.

Unfortunately, it's basically incompatible with the 7-speed transmission it comes with. The list of DTBs is long.
The E-class is a noticeably higher quality vehicle than the GL. Still, IMHO the GL has no competitors in its class.
It's the 2009 "Alabama cars" (ML, GL, R) that come with the urea injection and that means runflat tires and no spare tire, a deal killer for me.
W212 diesels coming in 2010; maybe station wagons, too, but not as likely.

Reason I'm asking is that those who drove/had the old sd 300 models in the eighties have praised it allot as a low maintenance car. I don't know though if they were just in love with it or if it was truly low maintenance.

If they're not cheap to maintain and need lots of it, then what part is the best part?

I've owned a few 80's 300D's, 90 2.5 Turbo, the 99 E300 and an 01 E320.
I think the 80's vintage folks learn to live with lots of things that don't work and are generous in their descriptions of what is considered "required" maint.
I've had little prob working on my E300. I love the fact it has a computer that will point one to the /system/component causing a fault. The 80's guys have finally mastered thier MittyVac and just can't bear to move up in technology I think.
