w123 or w124

Hello everyone.
I'm new to this site and I noticed some very knowledgeable replies and comments on other threads.
I was hoping someone out there could maybe offer me some advice for my current "dilemma." I currently own a 1983 MBZ 300td w123. It runs great and it’s approaching 380,000 MILES! I have heard that the engines in the W123’s are reliable and durable. I had planned to keep this car for a long time. I've already owned it more than a year and a half now with no problems.
However, I have been offered to buy a 1987 300TD w124, the 6 cyl, 4 speed automatic. I took it for a test drive and WOW.
The power and acceleration is great, much more than my w123. Also, it has approx 170,000. I've heard that the W123 are suppose to get about +500K or more miles if taken care of. How about the W124's?
Can I expect this W124 to be as reliable as my W123? Any problems associated with the W124's that might cost a lot of $$ in the future...
Oh yeah, the terms of the offer are that I trade up my 1983 300td + $1500 for the W124. Would this be a good trade??
(While the added power is very nice, what I'm really concerned about is longevity of the engine and ease of repairs. I really want a car that is going to last me a long time. That’s my main concern)
Any comments/suggestions would be great

Its a great engine, as long as you don't overheat it.
