E320 CDI beat a E55 in 1/4 mile?
Can this be done?
I know the mpg would suffer but what would be needed to accomplish this?
Bigger turbo's? Intercooler?
thx

Having owned both, my guess is that it's "possible", but very unlikely due to cost or the level of custom work that would have to be done.
My '05 CDI had a Kleemann KD box, that certainly enhanced performance & was comparable (or better) to an E500, IMO.
The biggest hurdles with the CDI would be a much larger turbo & intercooler and better programming in the transmission (or different transmisison altogether). Also a limited slip differential & headers would be pretty much required as well.
My CDI would pull hardest (per my "seat of the pants" dyno) at around 2000-3200 rpms. The shifts were pretty slow & weak for sports car performance. The E55 pretty much pulls through the whole range.
My CDI was 6000 miles away from going out of warranty & these thoughts did cross my mind, but finding someone to do the work made it entirely cost prohibitive. I spoke with Cory @ Kleemann about additional mods & he said there just isn't enough demand for a larger turbo/intercooler/headers etc. for Kleemann to pursue it. Plus there really aren't that many CDI's running around the US.
Just my $.02
My KD Box is for sale; great starting point for someone![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

.
Like 240D… wrote, it can be done.
Annual vehicle inspection might be some kind of happening….
Big wallet.
Big cooler.
Big VNT-charger.
Bigger injectors.
Big exhaust pipes.
1600bar and remapping.
Lots of time.
Lots of smaller mods.
Here is one version.
W124, OM603, tuned pump, Garrett 42VNT, boost/egp ~3bar.
+420hp/+600nm.
Too much power and torque for that car.
Horrible to drive and crazy driver.
Yes, I have been inside that car…..

Guys, I've had a diesel before it was a 2.0L naturally aspirated toyota engine - great torque but very sluggish ... I hope the E320 CDI isn't sluggish My E350 (gasoline) use to give a kick in the nuts once you hit it - do you get the same thing with the CDI ? Also, is bluetec more powerful than CDI ? I hate turbos coz of the lag, really wanna know how CDIs perform ... thanks
