2006 e320 CDI Catalytic Convertor need help...

Need to replace Catalytic Convertor this is the unit after O2 senor...looking up at engine..its tuck up on right side...can I do without since its after O2 senor....my check engine light is not on or do I have an error message. Looking for help with this...tks..

Why do you have to change it? We usually open up them and empty them and put the covers back...

Please elaborate what the cat company people said. Did they say that removing the cat or hollowing it out would not trigger a check engine (CEL) or other warning lights? I removed the black plastic cover under the engine to look and could not see any sensor after the cat so presumably this is the case. If true, the 2006 model is the best because we can easily modify the car without those pesky CELs.

tks for all the comments...found out that it was not the cat, but a broken muffler mount! Once again....MB service was wrong and miss this one!

What was the original issue that caused you to think it was the CAT. ? Noise? Air restriction?

CAT converter is warranted by Mercedes (by law) for 8 years/80K miles.
