2010 ML350 Bluetec
Newbie here. I'm picking up my 2010 ML350 Bluetec next Wednesday in Toronto, I also read about expensive MB oil changes. If I don't do the oil change at MB dealership, and add the Adblue (or MB certified equivalent) myself, will MB void my warranty? What are the DEF brands which are certified/recognized by MB? Thanks in advance.

As for warranty issues I think they're determined by national and/or local (State/Provincial) laws.So what's true here may not be true up there.

$10 per 2.5 gallons is cheap. Please post seller information for all of us in Toronto. Canadian Tire does not carry DEF in every store. I guess truckers buy it elsewhere.

Use The Right Oil
Remember that MB is **** about using THE CORRECT engine oil....they call it out in the owners manual, as a VERY low ash oil to help keep the ceramic soot filter in exhaust system clear. This is Mobil 1, but a special blend developed for the Bluetec diesel. It goes ( internet ) for about $7.50 per US quart, but, many Benz dealers buy it in bulk, and charge less at oil change time ... my west of Boston area dealer charges $5.95/qt.
Mobil 1 ESP M5W-40
If it reduces the high temp filter burn off cycles, that'll save potential problems later

All Dog Meat Ain't The Same
Carsy ... great list of products. Looks like a nice wine list at high end restaurant.
One thing...when U compare tech items like the pour point, temperature stability, and other esoteric differences in products it become "slightly" obvious. From data I have seen the Mobil 1 ESP M5W-40 may be the best combination of parameters.
It's all likely very academic ( like how many fairies can fit on the head of a pin ) ...but, at least in the USA, MB puts the Mobil 1 stickers on several locations to drive the point home. Maybe Mobil paid them more money than others to do this... maybe not.
Love your cars and change the oil frequently, with whatever 'ya like.

I pay no attention to such endorsements.I *do* pay attention to the 229.51 spec requirement, however and here in the US one can (fairly) easily get access to at least a couple of brands that comply.I have a stockpile of Mobil 1 ESP,Fuchs (a major German brand) and Valvoline...all meeting the 229.51 spec.I bought the Fuchs in 5 litre jugs over the internet and paid just under $7/litre...including shipping.
