2005 E320 CDI, high idle

Hi,

I have a 2005 E320 CDI, second owner, I have driven it for about 6000-8000 miles. It has nearly 80,000 miles. I have done oil change right when I got it, and plan to do the transmission flush. I changed the oil filter and air filter.

I was driving in a hurry yesterday, so somewhat hard on the car but not super bad. When I shut the engine down I noticed more vibration than normal from the engine stopping. I started it again and noticed the idle is higher and engine is slightly louder in the cabin than normal, between 700 and 800 rpm, closer to 800. Shut it off again and suspect the shutting down is different due to the now higher idle speed.

I have tried the car since and it seems to idle higher, as far as I can tell that is the only issue but what might cause this?

The previous owner had issues with the egr and had his mechanic put an egr emulator, I have the paperwork. "EGR Emulator For CDI3 - Kit". I wonder if this might be an issue? It worked fine until just now.

The previous owner also gave me an airflow sensor unit, he said he changed it with a new one but it was fine.

The car ran perfect until just now.

I'll pop the cover and see if I see or hear anything, ideas are welcomed.

Thanks guys!

Nothing looks wrong, no leaky injectors or anything. Does anyone know what would cause a high idle? How would I reset the engine portion of the ECU to see if that takes care of it? No error lights have come up, but I have not tried to read codes. Even though it might not sound like a huge deal, the slightly higher idle increases cabin noise while at a stop substantially.

come on guys, I'd hate to spend what it takes for a Masochist, er I mean real Mechanic. I've actually worked on my fair share of modern machines.

Please give me something to check?

I was reading the instructions for the EGR emulator, it looks easy to remove so I'll try that first. I'm guessing the reason for the previous owners use of this mod was due to a bad EGR, so I will probably accompany this with a new EGR. Which star xentry kits actually work, I may just buy one? I've always worked on my own cars and motorcycles etc. I'll look for socks in the trunk, very helpful, thanks.

I actually am suspecting motor mounts as it idled smoothly today a couple times and the rpm's seem the same. It seems to have more pronounced vibration at idle. I mistakenly thought it was higher idle, but I think it's just louder.

I ordered the two motor mounts and trans mount from parts.com,

I got the following items, can someone verify this would fit my 2005 E320 CDI

2122400418
2032401617
2032402117

I found a slight discrepancy with the transmission mount 2122400418, another forum listed 2122400218 as the correct part, anyone know if this is just an updated part or what?

Parts.com is supposed to check my vin, but I'm not sure how much I trust that.

I'm looking at 212 240 02 18, 212 240 03 18, and 212 240 04 18 from various sources, they all look identical... I've put a support request in about my order at parts.com, they are supposed to check my vin before shipping. I wonder what the differences are if any?

Understood, thank you.

The previous owner put a black steering wheel in with the grey interior, it bugged me. I found a grey wheel for the w211, different year presumably, exact match, part number was incorrect however the part is 100% correct.

So the mounts arrived,

What I received from Parts.com was the following:

2122400318
2032400417
2032403017

I called my local dealer, they told me 2032400417 was correct for the left, however the 2032403017 was not correct for the right. Oh and they would sell me the correct right one for nearly what I paid for all three. I paid $300 for the original Mercedes set.

As some of you may know, parts.com is basically a drop ship company that just gets good deals from key dealers across the country. I looked at the shipping address information on my package with parts.com as the business name. The address exactly matched a Mercedes dealer in GA. I called their parts department, gave them my VIN and asked for motor mounts and explained they shipped me some parts and I wanted to verify they were correct. Without me telling him what they sent me he recited the exact numbers they shipped. He said they were the latest updated part numbers in the Mercedes system and I told him my local dealer differed. He said he did not know why and that it was the latest in the Mercedes (paragon I think it was) system. I felt confident enough with that and installed them. The car is smoother than a babies butt now. WOW, it's apparent that the mounts before they completely blew were already bad. The front left was destroyed, the right and trans mount looked ok, but certainly were replaced anyway. I was able to get the right one in and out without removing the mount from the motor using a box wrench, is was tight but certainly possible. The job took me about two hours and went incredibly smoothly, I was expecting much worse. I have rebuilt dozens of (small) engines in my youth. I'd hate to think what my local dealer would have wanted for the whole job since one mount cost as much here as the whole set from parts.com.

The transmission and left motor mount can be replaced very easily, the right one is a little tricky.

So happy to have my car back!

Now on to my next projects, new shocks, new ball joints, backup cam, upgrading subwoofer...

I wish I could change the subject to motor mounts, not high idle.
