You could also go to mobile 1's site they use to have a store locator and then just call all of them.
Oil filter part number is 613-180-00-09 paid $9.60, list is $12.00
I've tried a few oils and haven't noticed any change in performance or fuel economy. Spec 229.51 has 0w-30, 0w-40, 5w-30, & 5w-40 oils. Spec 229.52 is only 0w-30 & 5w-30. I'm under the assumption that my ML came factory filled w/ Mobil 1 ESP 5w-40, which probably also had another additive pkg for break-in. My 1st oil change I used the Amsoil 5w-40. Next one I forgot to order in time for when I planned to do the oil change so I picked up Mobil 1 5w-40 from the dealer when I went to get a filter. For the 3rd change I had happened to be at my BMW dealer and found that they carried the Castrol Professional OE 5w-30 for their diesels. The Castrol carries both BMW LL-04 and MB 229.51 approval and was just under $6/qt w/ my BMWCCA discount. This last oil change is when I found BMW and MB both switched to their own packaged bottles. BMW's repackaged oil for the diesels is a Shell 5w-30 LL-04 oil but I couldn't find exactly which one There's 4 Shell oils that meet their spec and 1 Pennzoil that meets BMW & MB specs. As I mentioned above, I was told MB's repackaged oil is Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30. However, my local Advance Auto Parts store had Valvoline SynPower MST 5w-40 on sale for $5.59/qt which has the MB 229.51 approval so I used that this time around.

Looks like AmsOil decided to up there specs.

I never liked them because some of the sales guys were flat out lying to people but now that they manned up if I can get a good price I would try it.
I am currently trying out the 0w-30.

They have two different oils. One is 229.5 and the other is 229.51
The OM642 engine in my 2010 ML350 Bluetec seized in April this year @ 82K miles after all regular dealer maintenance. The dealer used MB Part # Q1090143 MOBILE 1 ESP FORMULA MB 5W40 at each and every oil change service, as noted on all of my dealer service invoices. It's becoming more clear to me why 5W40 oil is not to be used in the OM642 and other diesels.

Mercedes Benz changed the oil spec and notified the dealer network. They did not make much of an effort to notify the customer.
I would research and carefully before selecting an oil.
229.52 appears to be the only way forward based on the documentation I've researched.
Non-DPF 646, 647, 611, 612, 613's and earlier engines I still use Regular Mobil 1 0w40 which is a 229.5 oil
