Oil Analysis Results

My main concern with the M1 was the early signs of oxidation and upward thickening trend. It kind of supports others' claims to sludging. Whether it would have happened or not at higher mileage remains to be seen, but solids can drop out of solution rapidly, inside a few seconds when the solution/suspension/emulsion hits the tipping point.

Summary of analysis so far with most recent. I changed out the Amsoil 5W40 at just under 16,000kms because I had to do about 2000kms of heavy towing, and I didn't want to push the oil over the top. The heavy towing would have skewed the results anyway.

Was curious on the Mobil Delvac ESP performance as it seems to have given mixed results. At least at 9k miles, it shows great.
I m interested because this is occasionally on sale at Pep Boys for only $10/GAL, I use on other engines, I think I'm going to "clear it" for the Benz.

dave2001auto: I do a mixture of highway and city, and these days, a fair bit of towing also. Also keep in mind, these numbers are in kilometres not miles. Multiple by 0.62 to get the miles equivalent.
diesel315: It seems to be performing well. My only concern is the effect on the DPF.

Here are couple of my recent oil analysis reports.
The one dated today is after 7,600 miles of mostly highway driving.
According to Blackstone all values are good, however I still don't like the iron level (iron decreased from 54 to 52)!
I have now switched from Liqui Moly 4200 5W-30 to Pentosin High Performance II 5W-40 (both are Mercedes specification 229.51 oils), just to see if it makes a difference in iron?

Here is report for sample from my "new" E250 diesel. I have no records, so for starters it is blank page, but even Blackstone lab was optimistic, I don't like iron and aluminium values. Plan to send sample of new MB oil after 5000 miles to compare.

i do not like cst at 9.77. What oil was inside (brand, grade etc.)? Also, next time do TBN (amout of useful additives left) and TAN (ocidation level).

Beaters 'til they die
I've run two oil samples via Blackstone on our 2015 GL350 (now at 32,500 miles total) and both reports had concerning levels of Iron noted. Has anyone else seen Iron levels in the 185ppm range after a 6,500 to 7,500 mile oil change interval? The car is running the MB-standard Mobil 1 ESP 0W/30 oil. Is this likely piston ring-related or timing chain/timing chain sprocket-related? I'm concerned I'm heading down the path of a stretched timing chain and this is the first symptom. It doesn't exhibit any other problem symptoms otherwise, no burning oil, excessive heat, etc.
This is our first Mercedes, after owning many BMW/VW/Audi vehicles. So far it's been a great car, but I'm really starting to wonder if it's time to trade it in for something from another brand as I'm not wanting to own a 5,500 pound, leather and Alcantara-trimmed paper weight.

Those are pretty high numbers. I would take it in to get looked at. Generally speaking, the Mobil 1 does not protect as well as the amercedes branded oil or Amsoil. It might be worthwhile doinf a seafoan treatment and then changing up your oil.

Like I posted before M1 always generate higher iron, but 185 after short interval seems extremely high. Do you still have warranty? Some 350 engines had balance shaft issue.
I would contact the dealer with it and definitely change the oil brand.

I looked around and didn't see any mention of this balance shaft problem with the OM642, where did you hear of this issue?

I lost the track what we have been talking about couple weeks ago, but it is 350 gasoline engine that had the issue with balance shaft in early years.
When you have 350 Bluetec, than all your worry is oil cooler and later on intake/EGR cleaning.
