Diesel smell in cabin
I have a C class cdi 220 coupe and I'm getting diesel smell(unburnt) in the cabin. This happens only when the heating/air con is in use. There are no obvious signs of a diesel leak in the engine compartment. Has anyone experienced this problem and resolved it?

You may have a leaking injector seal. Check that first - very common. With the engine running look under the hood to see if there is a jet of air coming from the cylinder head anywhere.

The other area to check are on the 2 sealing rings on the saddle fuel tank for the level sensors & pump. Under lower squab of rear seat under 2 cover plates. They sometimes leak!

My car has the tank sender sealing issue on hot days or very cold days if parked overnight with a very full tank. Up front I've had leaks at fuel/water contamination sensor and each fuel filter hose at different times, 176,000 miles and injectors seals are still dry on mine.

Thanks to all who have replied to my question. I still haven't found the cause of the problem. The air temperature has gone up to 14 to 16c from 4 to 8c this week and there is now no smell in cabin when using air con so I will home in on the heater.
